Anyone Regret Replacing 4runner Rear Coils with Leaf Springs?

SAS'ed the front (Marlin Stuff) and am running cruiser coils with spacers to get the back close. I keep going back and forth on replacing the back with leaf springs (probably Marlin's). I'm really leaning towards the leaf route after running them in the front, Just want to be sure.

Any feedback would be apreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

i have OME lancruiser HD lift coils w/ no spacer and it matches my SAS front quite well but i dont like using the stock link geometry. If i was to keep coils id want to do a custom link setup but i plan to just do marlin's rear leaf setup sometime in the future just because its simpler and i think the gains from doing links are relatively small, the most significant being effective axle wrap control but that can be overcome by making a torque arm for the leaf spring setup. This is a pretty big concern for me since i plan to have ~400 ft-lbs on tap from my right foot

thats why all drag cars made from old sports cars replace the rear leaf springs w/ coil/link setups. they get such bad axle wrap the wheels will hop all the way down the drag strip

Thanks Jeremy,

I'm running regular cruisers, not the OME lifts that's why I need the spacers, I'm trying to run a little lower than normal. It needs more rear lift but I don't realy want to put the money into links without moving the gas tank, then I need to move the tire, ..... and the $$$$ never ends.

My truck comes factory equiped with the anti axle wrap option (3.0 auto) so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks,

Rob

i think you are mis-understanding me, if you do leaf springs you will encounter axle wrap since there is nothing preventing it from doing so but the bending force needed to bend the leaf springs. With the stock link or custom link setup the geometry of the links does not allow the axle to wrap around its long axis.

I also forgot about the gas tank location since i have a fuel cell. Thats another hurdle to overcome for a REAL link setup although ive seen some nice setups that do leave the gas tank where it is.

you could always go SUA in the rear to fight axle wrap

It was supposed to be a joke. What I meant was I have so little power that I don't think axle wrap will be a problem.

I've seen the 4 link (3 + Panhard) setup that uses the stock tank location (I think it was originally a tin benders thing) but it doesn't seem to be a readily available kit or shop install. Really don't have a lot of money to spend so I have it down to leaf or OME coils + new links using the stock brackets similar to allpro stuff. I think that if I go the links with stock bracket route i'll be regretting it down the road.

I've read a ton of stuff here and on Pirate just looking for feedback from those that have done the swap in something that isn't a trail only rig, ideally in a daily driver.

I looked into Spring under for the front. Problem was that it wasn't a standard thing so that meant experimentation, fab work ($$$) and potentially lots of time without my truck.

Thanks.

I dunno how much axle rap you'd get...I get none with chevy springs and a 3.0 with 5 spd, it maybe diff with 4.88s but i dunno yet.
