Hey everyone, I just got around to installing my new mile marker manual hubs on my 89 4 runner, and the install was super easy, especially considering I previously had factory manual hubs...The problem is that when the hubs are turned to lock and I drive down the road, there is a horrific metal to metal groaning sound (not high pitched at all) coming from the front axle area on both sides...I torqued everything down to factory spec with no luck at all....Even when the hubs are set to free, the noise comes and goes as I drive (very slightly)....I know it has to have somethin to do with the hubs since it was fine before..Has anyone ever had any expierence with this specific brand of hubs??? Good or bad???? Any info would be great......thanks

 

ive never heard of those hubs...most people have aisin or warn hubs...



and did you forget to pack grease somehwere?

 

Mile marker products have been around for a while....And as far as "packing" grease goes, the instructions say to coat all internal parts lightly because too much grease will cause binding of the hubs....

 

Just talked w/ the guy from mile marker, and he mentioned that the hubs were probably machined wrong Go figure that !!!! I was still wondering what the hell is rubbing though...I guess its the hub body itself making contact with something on the spindle?? Who knows..I will probably send these back and purchase some warns....

 

Now why do you not want to keep your original manual hubs? I thought those were supposed to be the best out there.

 

I'd rebuild the manual hubs before I'd buy new warns. I believe there is a write up on AISIN manual hub rebuild over on 4x4wire.

 

My original ones were completely seized together so I figured I would try and upgrade to a nice a/m set....The few people I talked to said mile markers made good products so I tried theres....But as mentioned, there has to be something up with them since it did not make any of this racket when I had the originals on there..

 

send them back and look in the classified section on here, im sure someone has a set of aisins for a reasonable price. you can always try tearing your old ones apart, check them over, clean them up and put new gaskets in and they would be pretty much good to go.

just installed a set of these too and am having the same problem!!! worst hubs ever. anyway to get rid of the sound? i jsut spend 100 bucks on these
