Cracked Mirror
Well stupid me was playing with the drivers side mirror(dont ask) and sure enough I shattered the mirror which is powerd. Question is how hard or easy is it to replace the glass if thats an option. Any help would be great.

Somebody vandalized my '96 and cracked the driver side mirror glass. I went to Toyota and they would only sell me the WHOLE assembly ~$400. So after a week or 2 of suffering I called a local windshield replacement place. They had just the glass for $13. I broke out the rest of the OEM mirror and used a clear silicone to glue the new glass in. That was a little over 3 years ago - no issues.

I still have to do mine, last year a semi dropped off a present via a sheet of ice 2 ft in diameter to break my drivers side mirror and drivers side window. For sure let me tell you one eye opener when driving over the Throg's Neck Bridge.
2 ways. Glass comes from the factory with adhesive applied to it.
1) Easy option, just stick on the mirror over the broken one.
2) Real way. You have to break out the existing mirror, removing all the glass. Once all the glass is off, clean the back with your favorite cleaner, then with alcohol. Then just stick on the new mirror.
There is no way to take apart the mirror assembly.

I've replaced one or two side mirrors before, and just made a template of the size needed then cut out the glass from an old bathroom cabinet mirror I saved and stuck that in, worked fine.

I seem to remember a 82 celica I had with power mirrors and as I recall the glass was attetched to a plastic backing which popped into place I guess things have changed. I will try a glass place to see what they say.
Thanks everyone

I shattered my drivers side mirror on my 96... here is how you do it:
1) Go search online for a replacement mirror glass (NOT ASSEMBLY) You can get it way cheaper than going to the dealer (what I did)
2) Break out the rest of the glass
3) Heat the black plastic up with a hair dryer (the backing where your new glass sticks to)
4) Once its heated up, you peel the adhesive strip off and stick it in there.
If you dont heat up the plastic, it wont go in. I tried...
Finally got my buddy out with me and got it in there after a while with the hair dryer. However, my stupid friend forced it in, as I told him not to .. (He took over my "project" as I was too "˟˟˟˟˟" to shove it in)... anyways he cracked it again when putting it in. The glass alone costed me $40 from the dealer and he never payed me.
Anyways, moral of the story: Do it carefully and dont let your dumbass "friend" force it in.
