how do i take out my air silencer. is it just the little elbow in the fender. i took out the elbow but i have something else in there that i can't get out. how do i take it out ( i only know how to do it on stangs ).

i know that this thread is probably in the wrong place but what is the point of the diff. breather mod.

 

What kind of truck?...search for the diff breather and theres a whole ton of info but basically it raises where the diff breathes through up higher in the truck to aid in water crossings so that water doesn't get into your diff when your breather opens.

This is the second post you made about two mods that have been talked about more times than I can count on my fingers.

Therefore, if you use the "SEARCH" function, you will find just enough information to answer all your questions. A lot of people here don't like to answer to questions just because a new member is too lazy to go out and the information themselves and therefore will either complain or not post at all as the chances are that they have already given their opinion on another thread (search ).

I am sorry if I came across rude, just trying to nudge you in the right direction to be liked by more in this forum. And also, since you are only 17, I wouldn't bother modifying your truck, because chances are that your parents will find out and that's no good. I would just wait another year.

The differential breather mod is one of those things that "if you don't know about, you don't need it". Every differential has a breater, but it's short, and when you go off-roading through deep water, you will get water is your differential which is no good. To fix that, people have come up with a way to extend that breather (usually to the gas filler line) to avoid water in diff. what do you consider "deep water" liek water seeping in threw the doors and stuff or just water over the diff.

 

anything that may throw water into the engine bay. Id keep it closed while wheeling, just so dust and other crap dont get into it.

 

wrong thread, lol.

in reference to the differential breather mod, deep water is water deep enough to reach the top of the rear diff, submersing the stock breather. so we hook up some hose to it to extend the breather where water will not enter the rear diff. the front diff breather comes extended so no need to worry about it.

DOH!!!! Agreed! If there is any potential for there to be water above the diff...extend the badboy...it costs like 10 bucks to do. Cheap insurance

the diff breather?

the stock diff breather is a little spring loaded cap on the top of toyota 8" axles.
theory goes, if your axle/diff is warm/hot from driveing and you enter deap water the axle/diff cools quickly drawing in air as the air in the diff cools. The spring loaded cap (in theory) would suck down and close off the opening under the cap thus preventing water from being drawn inside the houseing.

if your diff is already cold, and your in water there is a good chance you can get water in there as the little cap doesnt shut.
