Locker from a '98 to my '99

Alright guys,

N_Aviles has a locker that was removed from a '98 Runner...he's selling it and I will be willing to buy it if I can be sure that it will fit and work properly in my '99. I talked to the tech at the dealer and he said that the actual housings are different and that I would need the whole differential housing (maybe even the axle) and that I would need to make sure the gear ratio's are the same. I will also need to buy the "switch" too, that's like $50 from the dealer unless its going to come with the locker that N_Aviles is selling. I requested a pic from him and I will be taking that to the dealer to see if its going to work. I will also post it on here to check with the REAL experts!

Has anybody done this before, I searched briefly but couldn't find the answers.

Thanks,

Fink

EDIT: It's the stock locker out of the '98 that came installed from the factory.

I know that it is possible. You will just have to do some clearancing in the pumpkin to get the third to fit. There are write ups on it. I'll try to find one and post it for ya.

Here's a good one. Even covers the wiring and everything:

Ooop,I keep assuming all Highlanders had the e-locker but I forgot there was two packages available. I sold my '97 for my '99 due to it's lack of a locker plus I didn't feel like spending all the dough to "update" the '97.

Resolution was found on the 4x4wire page where it outlined the mods needed to be made to the non-locker housing found on some models. Just too much work involved...when I end up locking, I'll go with an air locker.

Not to hijack your thread, but what is the Highlander package? We are currently looking to by a 99 SR5 w/ the diff. lock, leather interior and auto. tranny. It currently has new 285/16 MTR's on it.

highlander package was the name of the sport package for the 99 and 00 model years... it became the sport package in 01-02.

it comes with a hoodscoop and highlander 99's are supposed to be the highest stock truck you can buy.
