I put an SR5 cluster in my 85 4runner

Volt and fuel gauge work GREAT so far
Oil and temp have the problems
Oil excites to the bottom of the line and the temp starts in the center. I have replaced the sending unit on the oil presser on the block (AKA the big one)
and have cleaned the off the temp unit on top of the water neck on the EFI!!

any other ideas would be great!!! Thanks

 

Did you unplug the oil pressure sender prior to hooking everything up?

 

yes i did even bought a new one

 

Does the oil gauge move when you accelerate? As far as temp is concerned it could be the voltage from the sender is too high. Did you test the gauge per FSM?

 

The oil pressure needle moves to about the low line when accelerating

 

Thats how all my 1st gen 4Runners would act too, not sure if I would call it normal but I've heard it is for most. Mine would never read halfway.

 

Green temp sensor on the water neck is only for the Ecm the temp sensor for the gauge is in the middle of the intake just to the right of the valve cover.

 

Not sure about the oil pressure gauge but the coolant temperature gauge is known for problems. Check what they said above^^, along with wiring. The gauge sender and the ECU sender are different.

I do know that both of those gauges share the same board inside the cluster.

I bought an SR-5 Cluster for my truck and have the problem mentioned in this thread, but I haven't gotten around to fixing my cluster yet, so I have no first hand experience to help you.
