Chef is right.. Like seeing more women getting into this. I have been trying to get my wife more involved and wellll...not much luck. Habenero is doing a 3rd gen and is really inspiring. She giving some of us boys a run for our money on her abilities.

Hi Terry,

Plans....

Build a solid go just about anywhere vehicle is the mission.

Husband bought it for me about 6 weeks ago, currently working on getting toyota reliability forged in stone.

So far I have;

Removed the 2" bodylift kit and replaced with nolathane body mount kit (standard height)
Flushed & replaced all fluids with synthetic's.
Replaced Timing Belt, Water Pump, Tensioners and Timing Belt bearings + Front seals on Crank & Cams / all with genuine Toyota Spares

Replaced 16x6 Chrome/Steel Wheels running chicken legs with a set of Toyota Alloy 15x7 (+8) Mags and new 31x10.5 tyres.

Up-coming Mods

Battery Isolator + Monitor with Link for Dual batteries + charge trailer battery bank. (Parts ordered)
Fabricate battery tray (fabricating)
Extractors (I think you call them headers)
Belly Armour
Custom Alloy winch bar
Warn 9,000kg High mount
Custom rear bar with wheel carrier/s
ABR Sidewinder under mount Compressor + 12L Alloy tank

Plus a few more lil items......

Stay tuned.

Yes I was pointed in the direction of "Hab's" build tread earlier today by "rworegon" in my intro thread, very inspirational, I'll have to be on the top of my game to keep up.

The trailer, its a custom job

^^ this is the cut down version for overnighters, actually quadruples in size when all sections are added to a 36'x18' 3 bedroom tent.

2,000kg full articulating hitch
Has 3 x 210amp AGM Batteries with 6,000watt continuous (12,000watt peak) True Sine Wave Inverter
Gas Hot Water for Kitchen and Camp shower
Boat Racks
120Litre Water / 27kg Gas
Microwave
Satellite TV (husband can't miss his discovery channel programs (Turbo Max)) with 32" HD LED TV
Plus a few more home comforts.

Its already done a 20,000km road trip around oz while we had our 15week honeymoon.

Let the games begin.

Most of my electrical goodies have arrived, over the next week I'll start installations;

1) Dual Battery Charging System

2) Prodigy P3 - Electric Trailer Brake System

!

This should keep me busy and out of trouble for a little while!!

I'll update the thread with progress photos as I get these finished.

Are you upgrading the alternator or its wiring while you're at it?

Hi Hab,

The Alternator was upgraded by the previous owner by the looks of it, its an AC Delco but unsure which one, my husband tends to think its out of a VC commodore (Holden which is our equivilent of a GM vehicle), he has hooked it up to a multimeter & is pumping out 88amps @ idle(800rpm's) & 137amps @ 1900rpm's !!

But it's a definite yes on a wiring upgrade - 250amp cabling from alternator to primary battery and engine fuse box + upgrade the primary fusible link to 130amps.

The "Sidewinder" dual battery system I'm using is rated @ 140amps & wont start charging the Auxiliary batteries till the primary is @ 12.7volts and will disengage the charge to auxiliary batteries if the voltage in the primary battery drops below 12.3volts.

The reason I chose this system is that from the cabin I can link the batteries should the primary die and use the auxiliary batteries to start the car with a flick of the switch..

LoL, yea we really slum it when we go bush, our next top end (Northern Territory) trip will be in October 2013, gives me 16months to get the truck sorted & ready !! In the past we generally have hired campervans which really limit we're we can go. Luckily my husbands best mate from school owns a chopper business up there so we can get to areas that even the beefiest 4x4 can't reach, also helps that my husband is an ex navy pilot, hence these little gems from past territory holidays.

We'd run out of beer, on the way to the nearest liquor store (we call them bottlo's) we had a lil detour

Champagne Bubbles

Anyways, this is my build thread, so enough of the off topic banter about the "adventures of priscilla queen of the desert" just a snippet of what's coming from our next holiday.

great vids kitty... what did your hubby do in the RAAF before he demob-ed? If it was coast watch he might have flown some dash 8s that were built in the hanger I worked in...
I think I saw some of the birds "we" made in the last few seasons of Sea Patrol... which we are only just getting now... fwiw we're up to about season 4...
