Front lower blinkers don't work, stumped.

So my front lower blinkers don't work, yes they are plugged in and the bulbs are good (removed and tested). The don't respond to normal blinking activity or 4ways.

Any ideas? The wires go right into the wire loom inside the engine bay/fender. There is no voltage getting to the light as the light works inside the housing (tested on a bench supply).

Are there any particular areas anyone would recommend taking a look at? Perhaps there is someone a little more familiar with the setup. I would imagine that the they would come off the same signal line on a single side, but where does that split (if that is true)? I'm guess that has to be where the problem lies.

What kind of truck? The rear signals work fine just not the front? Have you checked power and ground at the connector with a DVOM? I think they share the same ground if we are talking just the front but not sure until I can look at a schematic for the truck.

It is an 84 4runner. The rears work, it is just the lower blinkers up front that don't work at all. I have not actually tested the power and ground at the plug, however it is definitely one of them since the actual light and housing wires are just fine (been tested on bench supply).

Well, do that test: "test the power and ground at the plug". That is where it matters. Likely one or both are bad.

Did this just all of a sudden start happening? Or since you have had the truck?

I went out with a multi meter, however I wasn't too successful. It is a little tough to test them since they are blinking at a fast rate. Any tips.

What is the the constant in the circuit? 12v or Ground?

You can switch to Ohm's and check the continuity from the engine block or negative post on the battery or whatever to one of the side of the plug, if there is no continuity for either one, then your ground is bad. If it checks good, then check power, even with it clicking fast it should still register on your meter for a split second and show you have power.

I honestly couldn't tell you if they have ever worked properly. There were many other issues that needed tended to and that drew my attention much more. Just noticed it at some point, I mostly drive my car as a dd while have been building the truck.

I'll play around with the wire setup. I checked for power, however it was too difficult to tell. I'll check the ground as well. Not sure what I was thinking on the continuity, I think I was just really tired because that is a no brainer and have done it countless times.

Dropzone: where is the flasher unit located?

just tossed that out there as a possibility but than realized your fast blinker situation is a result of the front signals not working....I believe it is on the passenger side kick panel.
sounds more like as a bad ground..sorry looking at tons of threads tonight...

mine was a bad ground . I added a second ground from the driver side blinker to the body with a small self tapper . been 3 years still working .

Dropzone: where is the flasher unit located?

Turn signals are common grounded and the flasher sends 12 volts to turn them on. You could check the continuity of the ground connection and you can also check continuity between the front and rear power connections, as the LF and LR turn signal bulbs are essentially wired in parallel.

Flasher behind the driver's side kick panel, usually a larger green module if I recall. It is tricky to remove as you have to release a hidden clip. Since the rears are working, I would say the flasher is fine. Fast flasher tells you one or more bulbs are not working.

Thanks 4crawler. I will get out there today and poke around with the multimeter.

I just replace the turn signal housing, since its just corrosion rearing its ugly head.

My housings are just fine, so that isn't the issue.

Rears are blinking and both front and rears share same power so flasher unit is good.

OP implies both rear blinkers are working. Therefore flasher relay must be working. Rear and front RIGHT blinkers share same power lines, but not ground. Rear and front LEFT blinkers share same power, but not ground. Yet both rears work, so power side must be OK.

Yes, I'd suspect ground first. You might want to see ground schematic here.

Note where front blinkers connect to ground ("a" and "c"). Both the front-left and front- right blinkers share a ground via the front fenders. Could there be dedicated ground wires leading to steel of each of the fender, and they are both missing/open?

It might help to note that LH blinker, LH blink indicator AND RH blink indicators (in dash) share ground thru the left-front fender ("C" in schematic). Do both LH & RH indicator work? That would help indicate whether your left-front fender ground is good or not.

If suspecting power (+12V, flash relay) these pics might help:
Fuse block behind left-side kick panel here.

Close-up of fuse-relay block here. Flasher relay is the black one (labeled)

gracious. I haven't tested yet, but it seems the ground is the issue here. Anyone know where the stock ground location is for the front rear blinkers?

Both LH and RH blinkers work. Everything works as expected except the lower blinkers. I appreciate the help and I think there is sufficient information to do plenty more trouble shooting.
