I'm just curous as to what the worst case scenario is if I dont replace the totally shot rubber control arm bushings in my 91 3.0 4x4 4runner? I plan on selling the truck soon so I really don't want to put any more time/effort/$ into than neccesarry but I didn't know if ignoring the problem would have any major consequences.

when bushings wear out if you don't replace them they allow slop in parts witch either 1 lets the part smash around and wear itself out rubbing on other metal surfaces or allows the part to move around more then its supposed to wearing other moving parts that are attached to it out. or something like that. ive seen the threaded ends of a strut worn halfway though with just over a month of use. at school on a ford sedan.

i would say if its something you would do if you where keeping the truck for another year or so then do it, if not let the new owner worry about it.

In all un-amusing seriousness, if your bushings on your control arms are out, you will have a sloppy ride that clunks at best, and then the extra strain will shoot your ball joints and tie rod ends for sure - sooner rather than later. Again, not the end of the world. This will indeed wear your tires quickly and badly. I had this problem. My control arm bushings were good, but my ball joints were worn from ball joint spacers and untold thousands of miles. I got awful cupping in my tires and I had to get rid of my year-old procomp xterrains. I didnt know how bad my tires had gotten til I replaced me entire steering system and my truck shook left and right especially at low speeds.

A worthwhile fix, to be sure. Even better if done sooner. Impending doom? Not by a long shot.

 

Since it is a toyota it could cause your gas pedal to stick...
