6 bolts hold the skid plate up to the bottom of the tank. 6 more bolts hold the tank up to the frame brackets. Lower a bit and disconnect the level sender and pull the pump out or disconnect the lines to it. Tank can be drained if needed by removing the drain plug at the bottom rear.

unless you have a floorjack to hold the tank, drain it before you drop it..

I've literally had to drop my tank about...10 times.
various stupid reasons..
Just dont smoke a cig while your draining it or anything...that would constitute as a good tip

Leave the tank in and run a new line around the tank.

I think there is an access panel under the rear seat to the fuel tank. check as see if you can see where it is leaking from.

Definitely drain the tank or run it down- not for lowering but it's a bear to get back in with any amount of fuel in it. Like others have said 6 bolts on the skid, 6 on the tank. On my '92 the access panel under the back seat (4runner) lets you disconnect the plug to the pump and main fuel feed. Be aware there will be residual pressure in the fuel line. You will also need to disconnect the low pressure vent and return lines.

Good luck.

There is no access panel unless you make one!
