Mean Green alternators are suposed to be bolt on upgrades. I would imagine that you need to upgrade your electronics as well. Why dont you just stick with a new stock alt. and a high performance battery?

I thought I read a MR2 turbo was also an upgrade option, but the plug end may be different (round vs. oval?)

You could also have the stock alt re-wound? I think they call it......also there was a GM alt mod that some people have done. I think there might be a write up on here, or on pirate.

Mine went out a few weeks ago and i saw a couple of ad's on ebay for high output alternators. Cme to find out this place was local to me. I picked up a 160 amp for my 93 runner. And it's been great since. 80 amp's at idle and 160 at 3k. Here's the link. http://4alterstart.com/ Hope it help's. Oh, i forgot, Its a direct fit, and if your good at tetris youll have it in, in about 30 mins.

I did the Boyle's Future Tech alternator upgrade. I am really happy with it now, it is very solid and a whole lot more powerful than before (65 idle/124 max).
The thread on that is here

I had an issue at first, because the first one they sent me was defective and wouldn't charge properly at idle. I sent it back to them and they rewound it, this time adding insulating varnish, and it's been perfect ever since. They offer a great product. My only advice is to send them your old alt in a very, very excellent box, really well packaged, and request that they send it back in the same packaging. Both Mt_Goat and myself had issues related to damage in shipping due to poor packaging. good luck this will boost your charging system a whole lot!
