3rd Gen Auto Tranny Code Number

3rd Gen Auto Tranny Code Number
I came across a cross reference with all of the Toyota automatic transmission codes. It is showing the same code for the 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen Runner's auto tranny (A340) Can someone with a auto 3rd Gen check their door jamb for the number? If this is the case, the 3.4 swap just got a bunch easier for us 3.0 guys. Just get a 3.4, ECU, Harness and bellhousing (maybe?) and go to town.
Prolax and NC - in case you didn't know, the Supra auto tranny is also the A340. All you need is a Supra auto bellhousing to make them fit together.

KEWL!!! Thanks Tom.
Looks like a 3.4 or any of the Supra motors will bolt up to my auto tranny. Runners since 88 and Supras since 86 have all used the A340 autotranny. Sure makes a swap alot more feasible.

Here's what I found in my spankin' new Toyota repair manual:
A340E - Tranny for 2WD - no transfer case attached.
A340F - Tranny for 4WD - with two speed transfer case attached - electronically controlled 4WD (Push Button)
A340H - Tranny for 4WD - with two speed transfer case attached - mechanically operated 4WD (Lever)
I read somewhere that all you need to bolt up a different motor with the same tranny code is the new motor's bellhousing. If that is true, it makes the swap a bit simpler.

Question
I searched and found this post. I was wondering if anyone has swapped their A340H with an A340F? My transfercase is bad in my A340H and the option of having a separate transfercase with the A340F would be awesome instead of the integrated one. If anyone has done this, please let me know the technical aspects that'll have to be done. I also wonder if the plugs are different or if they can be spliced and make the tranny work. Any info appreciated. Thanks.

This just came up again in another thread. Here's a tech article on the swap:
