Go to your truck, open the door and on the sill, by the door, there is the manufacturer's info. At the bottom right corner, it will say W56 or G58. Thats your transmission. If you have ADD, then from what I've heard, its probably that you have a G58.

its not there. the info plate only has mfg date, VIN, vehicle weight info, and wheel/tire info. no documentation on tranny information on there.

is it not stamped on the trans case somewhere?

W56 transmission, unless somebody swapped a different one in there.

No.

84-88 Truck and 84-89 4Runner EFI used a W56 transmission. Easiest way to identify an 84-88 W56 is the top shift plate. It will have 6 bolts holding it down, and 4 bolts holding the actual shifter to the shift plate.

You need to look under the hood to get the correct info plate.

"On the passenger cars, trucks, and landcruisers the ID plate is located on or adjacent to the firewall within the engine compartment."
