Remove B-pillar trim when painting or tape them off?

I'm painting my 4runner.
My B-pillar trim pieces have never been off.
My motto for bodywork is "first, do no harm."
What is the probability of getting them off without damaging them?
Is it a better plan to just tape them off?

you'll probably only break the fasteners. i'm not sure if there is a source for them anymore, though.

LOL! Yeah, I replaced those pesky grille clips with expansion nuts and screws. Now no special technique nor tools required.

Thanks for the inputs guys. I’ve poked and prodded at them but they show no signs of coming off without damage so i’ve decided to
mask them off.
