since the portable compressor unit will run an air ratchet i picked up this compact air ratchet off ebay, it was a good score, new for 1/2 of what they want for it at Home Depot, 500 lbs of torque, it didn't even skip a beat taking lug nuts off and only weighs a couple of pounds

dug out an old storage box i had in my old Tacoma. Used it to consolidate 3 rubbermaid action packers. Better organization and takes up less space

half the reason for getting the 4runner was to haul the grandkid around.
He tested several knobs, switches and buttons today
by https://www.flickr.com/photos/42814812@N06/, on Flickr
by https://www.flickr.com/photos/42814812@N06/, on Flickr
than he saw his mom get off the train
by https://www.flickr.com/photos/42814812@N06/, on Flickr

can't make up my mind on lights, pulled the round ones from up front
by https://www.flickr.com/photos/42814812@N06/, on Flickr
moved the winch controller box down below and decided to give this thing a try
by https://www.flickr.com/photos/42814812@N06/, on Flickr
it has 3 modes- driving, fog and both
by https://www.flickr.com/photos/42814812@N06/, on Flickr
still have to paint the mounts, used some superstrut to get it up high enough that i could reach the in/out selector on the winch

My son was always pulling the knobs off the climate controls.
I'm going to have to remember that so much of what is in the 2nd gen also goes into my early 3rd gen, like the climate control and the map lights, switches....maybe the mechanicals for the cluster too? Might have to look into that should the unicorn fart wire ever break.

I'm for old school round but would bet the hubby would go for the bar. Tough choice, especially with three modes on the bar.

I'm old-school, too (prefer rectangular) but either that or the bar and NOT on roof is fine with me. I think lights on roof would reflect off mist/dust on the trail and/or cause glare from hood. But worst yet, it's like Ricer look for trucks - LOL!

Threw a new grill on the truck from Amazon. I don't like the chrome but the rain wasn't cooperating so I'll pull it and paint when the weather is better.
other grill was about to fall off.

I'm usually not a huge fan of chrome either, but that new grille sure looks purty!

glad you like it

i had accumulated all the junk to install 5x7 Truck lites again. Hoped the install was gonna be straight forward...but nope. it would have been a PITA trying to get the buckets mounted correctly.

So i replaced my headlight housings last year with a set off ebay. I had 3 sets of stock housings but they were all cloudy or cracked. When I installed the new housings I threw in a set of LED bulbs, they worked but the pattern was funky
A guy on tr4.org installed the same housings with a better set of bulbs

GTR bulbs came in saturday morning, installed them that afternoon
the usual PITA pulling the grill off etc

old LED compared to the new. The GTR is definately better built

old beam pattern

new beam pattern, much better and well defined compared to the old one
by https://www.flickr.com/photos/42814812@N06/, on Flickr

pattern is different from what @djelectron got

so i guess i need to play with adjusting the housing to get the same pattern or maybe pull the center diffuser from the lens..

driving in the dark and rainy conditions this morning the light output was definitely better

as many of you know I have gadgetitis really bad. Had some cash to blow from selling some parts.
Oregon recently enacted a pretty harsh distracted driving law..pretty much don't touch your phone or other electronic devices even at the light.
So upgraded my dashcam to a Garmin dashcam 55. Nice thing is it is voice activated and has wifi built in so you can download straight from the camera to your phone
i need to pick up the
hard mount cable hard mount cable
it came in handy today when a blind lady wandered out into the insection

takes good pictures at night and during the day

wow - you really have a great rig here!

3 questions
1) fender flares: how happy are you with them? i was thinking of getting some to replace the stock chrome thingies, but i feel like the price tag on those you have is quite steep. couldnt you find any others anymore or did you choose them for a specific reason?
2) did you have a noticeable decrease in mpg with the new tires?
3) do you by any chance have some audio of the exhaust system you installed (WALKER 17418 DYNOMAX SUPER TURBO right?). mine currently sounds super lame (fits to the engine somehow *clears throat* ) and i want to change it

i will also subscribe to your thread here

Think about that for a moment.

Thanks! debating about one for the wife's car too. I have had a couple of friend's use their dashcam footage to prove who was at fault after an accident.
It seems like half the people driving around PDX don't know how or give a crap how they drive

Thanks-
Flares: the rubber flares were a stop gap to keep me from getting a ticket. I haven't had time to tackle installing the jungle flares yet. overall the quality of those I am happy with, will see after I get them installed if it changes
Tires: I went from 225's and stock gears (i think 4.56's don't really remember) to 35's and 5.29's. seems like mileage stayed the same, around 15 mpg. in reality it probably went down
exhaust- no audio and unless it is mentioned in the thread I don't remember what exhaust I got, bought it off ebay or something and again it was a stop gap since the old exhaust what rusted out. It was supposed to be a direct replacement and it wasn't. Had to do a bunch of crap to get it to work. I should probably take it in and have a new exhaust put on

Yes Ian, i did what you saw, I realized it as I was doing it. Sort of natural thing to do, especially with the language barrier we had..
