Ha I know it's an old post but I had to laugh. Mine froze up in Yellowknife and it felt like rolling cinder blocks for a few km when they would soften up in -50C. The transmission fluid and everything else would be thick. Like having molasses in your diffs.
Wow, Haven't been anywhere that cold yet. That sounds like you had a lot of moisture in the tire.
After paying $42 to refill my CO2 tank I started looking for alternative fast air sources.I thought about a Viair system but didn't think $400 was worth it.
Decided to give ebay a shot with a seller I have had good luck with in the past, picked up one of these, only bidder at $99

It basically looks like a generic Super Flow MV-90
it sucks a done of juice but is fast
Filled the empty 35x12.50 from 0 to 30 psi in a little over 2 minutes
Mine not being portable is one less thing I have to strap down or remember to pack. I've plumbed the rig to have air connectors at front and rear. Downside, as you pointed out, is the rig goes where air is needed. Even though it's slower then CO2, I'd rather have unlimited air filling then pay to fill a tank.
Sunday night replaced my tie rod ends, took it for a test drive..life was good.
Headed out monday for a Run out at Tillamook State Forest and all was fine until about 2 miles from the meet up spot and had death wobble from hell..checked lugs and they were fine.
turns around and drove the 20 miles or so home not being able to get above 30..it sucked.
Scored a set of trunnion bearing eliminators cheap so started the tear down today.
They look pretty good compared to the stock bearing, finding someone local with a press may be a challenge though
Dirty 30's were installed about 6 years ago by a local guy who needed some $ and I didn't have time.
He didn't mention that the driver side must have had a blown birf at some point, not chunked up too bad bUT not as clean as the p/s
drivers side Passenger side Axles came out now And easy and looked awesome
It was nice to see the inner axles seals still in good shape
Are the trunion eliminators all part of the pin? How often are you suppose to grease them?
When I did my SAS I ordered the MC oversized bearings and pins, they are always back ordered along with the hi-steer arms. That really slowed my SAS progress. I need a press also.
them harbor-freight presses can be fragile if not braced. i read that some people brace all the corners to keep it from wobbling. also, the "X" plates it comes with have been known to shatter/crack. just something to keep a (safety-glasses protected) eye out for

There is a provision for a zirk fitting. I wanted the MV kit but picked this up locally for about 1/2 price from a guy that needed some $$

Thanks for the heads up.
i can add some bracing pretty easily
I was wondering if a press was needed to rebuild the front axle. I have never done the front axle but have all the parts. Glad you posted that.
Not totally necessary Terry.
I needed to push out the trunion pins to replace them for the eliminator pins.
I probably could have done this with a vise but seemed like a good excuse to get one. I should be able to do rear axle bearings too..
So been moving slowly forward on the slowest front end rebuild.
My first grandson finally entered the world, Meet Tatum my future wheeling buddy Tatum
He and his mom are living with us so household will be going through a few changes. ..
Thrilled my wife with this in the sink
My new favorite cheap tool
got a little bit done, pressed the trunnion bearing Elinator studs in the steering arms
Congratulations on the grandson. Great looking kid. He will be ready for wheeling before you know it, they grow quickkk. The front axle rebuild is not bad at all but it is the cleaning that is the time killer. Cool idea for the outside vise. That would be handy to have at times.
Thanks Guys. Became a grandparent a few years earlier than expected but sure wouldn't trade it for the world.
been spending a lot of time with Tatum, need to get the truck back on all fours.
I was trying to talk the missus into an ARB equipped third for the fronT since the front end was already apart but negotiations were unsuccessful
Oh well
Scored a used Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in awesome shape dirt cheap that should come in handy
download the FSM and will make some procedures easier
Download some trail maps and it can also double as a big GPS
I just installed the maplet app and it's really great for trail riding. Used it this past weekend.
RBX - Maplets is a great app. Had our annual church camp out last week and used it to show people local trails and even how to find restrooms
I think at least 6-8 people downloaded it aND came back and told me what a cool app it was.
I have at least 6 gps/map apps and I think I use it the most
