Whats next? SAS? an Exo cage would definitely put icing on the cake and give you that "tubed out" look.

 

It was deff an awesome deal. The way I see it, The doors, plus the quick release hinges, plus shipping from indiana, plus paint, was probably $300+.
So I got everything for 1/3 of the price.

I figured you'd like this one better.


Don't think I want to exo until I flat bed it. Not sure whats next. Little things here and there while saving for SAS parts.

 

So I got out there today and finally capped the ends of the front bumper from when I cut it back to fit the 35's back in October.
I just used some 1/8 plate for the caps. Its not structural so it'll be fine.
When I went to pull the bumper off though, I found out that the nuts inside the end caps were stripped. Okay, so its time to do the end cap mod.

After I was done welding and everything, I washed it off in prep for paint. If the neighbors didn't like me before, they must now..


Heres where the bumper mounts. On the end caps as well as the part coming from the body mount. The captive nuts on the body mounts are starting to strip too, so perfect time to redo those.


Done for the night. I'm leaving the tube doors on for the foreseeable future, so I parked real close to my dads truck so that someone will have a really hard time getting behind my seat and taking my subwoofer.

One of the problems I've always had with the bumper is the side mounts on the side of the body mounts.
The holes never really lined up with the bumper. A couple of them were stripped or real close to getting there. So I cut off all the captive nuts and it appears everything is still mildly tweaked. I can get one out of two bolts/ nuts to line up on each side. So once everything is ready, I'll do a small inch long weld down the gap.

I have a 1996 Tacoma DLX with a V6. I'm going with the OME 882 and the N91S struts up front. For the rear I'm goin with the All-Pro Expo leafs and the 12" Bilstein 7100 short bodies. (All like you recommended)
When searching for my billies they ask a valve size. Wtf is that?

I'm no valving expert, but I know that the first number is is the rebound force and the second number is is the compression force.
I believe my 5150's are 255/70 and they are pretty stiff. Those expo leafs might be pretty stiff, so you'll want something that can dampen them well.

Regarding new pics, I'll have some after this saturday. I've heard through the grapevine that the Holcomb trail up in Big Bear has re opened after being closed since 07. So me and some friends are gonna hit that and possibly others on saturday.

I'm getting a real eery type of grinding coming from the front hub/ bearing area.
I don't get any weird howling like a wheel bearing is going, so...
At first I thought it was my rear end carrier, because there was a known issue causing a similar sound with it. But I was under the truck the other day, had the transfercase in 4, and started turning the drive shaft. I pinpointed the sound to the drivers side front CV/ hub.

Also, I have noticed that when the truck sits for a few days the sound is lessened. If I drive it to work and get it really warmed up the sound is very noticeable. This morning, the truck has sat for 36+ hours so the video doesn't even show the worst.

The sound is most prominent under ~15MPH and goes away above that speed.

Specs: 1999 4 cylinder, manual hubs, 170K miles.

It's long. I didn't feel like editing it. The main noise issue occurs at:
18 seconds through 33 seconds, 2:04-2:08, 2:36-2:38, 4:11-4:14, 6:04-6:10.

Problem found and problem solved.

The hub gear that rides on the inner race of the manual hub body had lost all its grease in that spot. So it was metal on metal. That would explain why the sound got worse as that area heated up through longer drives.

Its been around a year and a half since I last greased the hubs.
In hindsight, this problem started and got exponentially worse after a run this past July when I went through about 4-5 relatively deep water crossings out on the trail. I'm lead to believe that water seeped into the hub and washed away the grease where it was needed most.









All I can say is that I'm glad it was an easy fix.
