IIRC, marlin is the only one who makes an adapter and they are big $... maybe thats the reason? or maybe you have to put the taco case behind the earlier case?

The taco T case is chain driven. It can not be converted into a crawl box.

Marlin as well as inchworm both make adapters.
The adapters are the run of the mill adapters that will allow a gear driven transfer case to be bolted to my stock transmission. Like this:
http://www.marlincrawler.com/transfe...i4-drivetrains

Normally that adapter is used to bolt a crawl box behind my transmission, at which point another adapter is used to make the back of the crawl box hook up to a stock Tacoma case.
This is my adapter (on the right) that bolts a gear driven reduction box to my chain driven drivers drop case. However, since I will no longer be using a tacoma case with a drivers drop, this adapter will be sold.

But, since I already have a complete transfer case, I'm just going to adapt it to my transmission and run it with some 4.7's. I'll go duals at a later moment.

Ah yes, I forgot about the chain/gear driven and the passenger drop/driver drop differences.

Parts collecting has begun!!
I've got a hit on a decently priced axle very close to me.. pretty sure I'll be picking that up soon.

I picked up an IFS steering box and IFS hubs today
The hubs will widen the axle 2" on each side.. get me closer to my Taco rear width.

Once I get the axle.. I'll rebuild it.. get a diff geared with 5.29's.. probably get marlins 25MM Pin kit with high steer arms.. FROR Taco brake mounts (with Tundra brake if they'll fit).. I'll keep stock birfs until I can save for longs at another time. Just want to get the axle under the truck.

Radiator fluid. They removed it so they could access the inner steering box plate better and so it didn't get messed up by any weld splatter. I believe.

looks like its gonna be a fun project scuub... maybe when you get done ill take that trip down there... OR, ill bring my own SAS parts...

EDIT: how are you planning on gaining the full width? spacers? cuz there goes your scrub radius...

Should be fun for sure..
The IFS hubs bring the axle to about 58.5". With 1.5" wheel spacers on each side I'll be sitting at just about 61.5" which is .5" wider than the rear end.

I just deal. And quickly answer. I'd rather not be an ass to people commenting on my own build thread.. you on the other hand.. have at em

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the new Trail Gear Tacoma sas kit.
I'm going to use a stock (well somewhat) yota front axle. IFS hubs for width. FROR Tacoma brake mounts (with Tundra brakes).
Since I already have a passenger drop transfer case that I was going to use for my crawl box I think I'm just going to throw some 4.7's in it and throw it on the back of my transmission (with a marlin crawler adapter) and have a passenger side drop.
Hoping these 35" MTR's will last me until a bit after the sas when I can get some 37's.

Here's what trail gears single cab taco looks like.. They say the sas kit puts the axle center 3.5" forward of stock.. so that'll give me a little extra wheel base and plenty of firewall clearance to run 39's if I wanted.

Heres the build thread on that..
http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=899272

Stay tuned.

Well im pretty tired and didn't want to read the whole thread right now but i read the first. When i got to the last page and saw the pictures of the white taco i couldn't believe that was the same truck I did back track and found your truck again and it still has made damn good progress. That white one would definitely give me something to work towards though. Keep it up man!

Got my axle today. Its in pretty decent condition. Leaky knuckles.. painted safety orange
Its either from an 84 or an 85. Its got the bottom gusset. Steering stops aren't tweaked and the bottom of the axle isn't scarred so I don't think it was ever beat up. It looks straight so all is good.

Got about 6 grand worth of parts I need to collect before I'll be anywhere close to ready. I'm thinking about taking out a signature loan... but we'll see.
