I don't know what is stranger, that you installed that theme, or that you use Safari on Windows.

 

I use Safari/Firefox on one of my PC's.
I love Safari but can't go to a Mac because of the IT systems I manage for work.

Heh, I use Firefox and Lynx.

Yeah, that's right, I use Lynx, on Windows. You know that mode Safari has that strips out all images and whatnot? Lynx has had that "feature" since day one in 1992. Sometimes I prefer the web only in text.

I was actually worried this wouldn't work, the frontpage of Yotatech doesn't actually load for me in lynx, but the forums work (aside from no pictures)

So yeah, changes what you think of what a web browser is, eh? Lynx is one of the first browsers. There's a "modernized" implementation called Links that offers graphics support as well as a text-only mode, it's also one of the fastest browsers out there.

Yeah, that's how the Web used to look, long before most people had even heard of it, or the internet, it wasn't until a year after Lynx was released that Mosaic came out, which rendered images embedded into text pages and popularized the Web. Until then you had to download images and view them separately, so the majority of sites were just text. If you've ever been to any real old site that is just a white background, no graphics, and text, chances are the site was originally meant to be viewed in Lynx or any other text-only browser.

Honestly? I miss the early days of the Web, it was a happier and more innocent time, fewer idiots too.

Actually, it's kinda clunky for the uninitiated, but once you get used to it, it can go pretty quick, but I wouldn't say 1000x faster, especially on sites that use lots of cookies (since you need to manually accept/deny/always/never the cookie if you haven't changed it to auto). The screencap is of a basic install and config which isn't really friendly towards fast browsing, but I mostly use it for testing purposes instead of legitimate browsing.

If you wanna give it a try, this version works with Win 7 64bit and is pretty user-friendly.

Basically, you hit g, type the url, hit enter, hit "A" a lot, and follow the directions on the bottom of the window. Check out the documentation, you can also apply different style sheets to lynx, or *.lss files, which enable you to change the look and feel of the browser.

Of course, if you really need all that "graphical" crap, check out elinks, which is both minimalist and fast.
