Need Memory Stick Help
I have a Sony digital video camera that uses a memory stick. It came with a 64mb stick and I bought a 512mb stick. I used the 512 stick once and it worked fine the whole time at Tellico in May.
But, since then the 512 stick has not worked-it just says incompatible memory stick? What's wrong? How do I fix it?
I'd rather not have to go buy another memory stick.

Do you have a card reader for it on your computer? If you click on "My Computer", you'll find the stick. You can right click and "format" will be one of the options.
If you only use your camera to connect the MS, plug it in and it will act as a card reader. Same gig as above...

I've had at least one Sony of one variety or another for the last 11 years. I've never had a MS take a dump...

Cebby-tried it in the card reader and it never shows up on the computer. It's a Sandisk ms-I figured it would be ok since the camera came with a Sandisk ms.
Uhoh-I think I found the problem! the orginal ms was made in Japan and the one I purchased later was made in China!

Your camera should have the capability to re-format the stick. You'll have to look through the owner's manual, or scroll through the menus on the camera.
I've had to re-format a couple of my MSs, and it's really no big deal.

Brett, did your camera come with a "memory stick" or a "memory stick pro?" Old sony cameras ran the memory stick, but all the cameras made within the last few years use memory stick pro and they are usually not compatible with older sony cameras. I used to be a manager at Circuit City and we would see this all the time. Other than that, it sounds like the card could have just gotten damaged somehow.

Yeah that is kinda strange, my only guess is that somehow the card got damaged, but that hardly ever happens, but maybe? Hopefully you can get it figured out.
