Laptop case

When I got my Dell 1720 Inspiron over the Christmas break, I did not order a case for it.

I have looked at a few online and in stores, but did not see anything I liked.
When I bought the FJ Cruiser, it came with a nice soft briefcase that says FJ Cruiser on it, and I can cram the laptop in it, but its a tight fit.

I started cases, and this site popped up.
http://www.casesbypelican.com/pelica...aptop_case.htm

Man, that is one heavy duty case.
Anyone have one of these?

I placed an order and got the 1490CC-ST that fits a laptop upto 17-3/8" L x 11" W x 3-3/8" D.

The Dell is 15.5" L x 11" W, so the case will be a good fit.

I have two Victorinox backbacks. One huge one which I use on long trips (When I fly home for a few days) and A smaller one that I use CONSTANTLY.

I am around campus all day and ride a bicycle everywhere so I always have my backpack with me. Sometimes laptop, but not always. If its in there I always feel safe even when im flying around campus like an idiot on my bike.

These backpacks can take some abuse

that looks like a nice case though.. but I REALLY like my swiss army backpacks.. well designed and take a beating. They are expensive, but hold up well to everyday wear an tear

Haven't used their laptop case, but Pelican makes some Hella-Tough cases for other gear. Recommend them fully.

looks cool, just DONT USE THE LAPTOP IN THE CASE.... laptops like lots of air to be able to circulate around them to cool off. running the computer in the case as pictured is just asking from mobo problems

Pelican has a very long and well recognised track record. we used them for our Industrial Medical/Safety company and we tested them for fun, we put in two cheap laptops in 2 different pelican cases and dropped them 10 feet, nothing happend but a few scraches here and there on the cases. the laptops appeard ok and worked like before.

The case should be here Monday.
And yes, never run a laptop in a case like this, no way to vent heat.

Well, I did not know Fed Ex worked Saturdays.
He showed up at 4:23 PM.

Case came, very nice.
This is my first Pelican case, and there are no instructions on how to do the "pluck and fit foam" shindig.

Found this on Google, this is what my foam looks like.
http://www.foamerica.com/1491hdf-hig...pelican-1.html

Found these instructions too.
http://www.justcases.com/customfoam.html#plucking

So I take it these "plugs" go all the way from top to bottom?

The Pelican case is nice, but it is to small for my Dell 1720.
It looked like it would fit perfectly, and after I "plucked" out the foam, it was to small for the laptop to go all the way to the bottom of the case.

Will be giving it to my youngest son for him to use.

I found a heck of a deal for $34.99 on a Case Logic case that many use for this same laptop.
Found it linked on the page where I just ordered a spare power supply.
It is to difficult to disconnect my power supply behind my PC desk, so I run the laptop out in the living room when using it in the recliner on battery power.
Now if I want to take the laptop somewhere, I would be stuck with no PS, so I ordered a second one.

At the bottom right of the page is the link to the case I also ordered.
The reviews on it are all good, and for the $$$, the case is even a better bargain for the quality of it.

Thanks, this one ships tomorrow though.

On a sidenote...

My youngest son dropped off his stepdads 15" Inspiron yesterday for me to work on, it is quite small compared to this big beast of mine.

He had 21 viruses, and 71 strains of malware/spyware on it.

I had it cleaned up for him in a few hours, and it was running great.

His stepdad is the kind of person who clicks/falls for those ads that tell you to click here to scan your PC.
BAM!
You just put a payload of spyware on your PC.
I had to educate him when he dropped by to pick it up later that day to not click on that crap.

I was thinking about it, I had the discs and it has the partition to also reinstall the OS, but I tried that, and it ran great afterwards.

However the 1.5 GHz Centrino only has 512 MB of RAM, so I told him to take it the Geek Squad at Best Buy and swap it for 2 GB of RAM, it should speed it up.

I have 2 GB in the new Inspiron I got with Vista, it runs good.

If it acts up later, I will format it for him.
But I installed AVG 7.5 on it, and also Webroots SpySweeper that I use, and after running both it was clean, then I ran them again a second time and no crap was found.

Only had one error, upon rebooting an error window popped up saying that a DLL file was missing.
It was quarenteened by AVG, so yes, the OS could not see it.

I Googled the DLL file, went to that DLL site, it was not found.
Also checked all of my PCs, could not find a replacement.

I finally just erased all mention of it from the Registry, and that fixed it.
I have no idea what app was associated with the DLL, but it runs great.

It came, I saw, I like.
TNC17
http://www.caselogic.com/case_logic/...?modelid=70107

$60 on Case Logic's site, $35 through Dell.

The case has much more than the info on the site.
There is the sug fit system with Velcro, adjust it snug once to hold the laptop, then never again.

Sleeves inside for DVD/CDs, pockets inside for an MP3 player, cell phone, PDA, ect.

Pockets on the outside to hold a HUGE 1'x1' mousepad, many more pockets.

For the price through Dell, this is the case to get if you have a 17" laptop.
I looked at many in sores such as Best Buy, I did not care for any of them, plus they were a lot more money than this one.

Corey, what are the dimensions of your Dell? I got a 17" HP right around Christmas time and have been having a hard time finding anything I like that will fit. I picked up a Targus briefcase that fits, but it won't hold everything I like to take with me on business trips, and it was pretty pricey. I would really like to get a backpack again, but the only ones I've found to fit a 17" are around or over $100.

Ok, that is pretty close to my dv9000 series HP

Dimensions 15.16 (L) x 11.65" (W) x 1.57" (H)
Weight 7.8 lbs

I didn't realize they were so big. Sounds like that bag will work. I might have to convince the Warden that I need yet another computer bag Thanks for the info.
