Rearview camera in a 2nd Gen 4Runner
Hello,
Don't know if this is the correct section to post this...
Some time ago I installed a rear view camera in my truck.
In the States you use to have lots of places to park, but here the normal is to park in the town streets in line, and space is always a problem.
When I lifted my truck I noticed I had to take care when parking because I can go up on the bonnet of the rear car if it's a little or low car...
So I prefered to do a 36$ investment than having to pay more for my insurance next year...
In Spain the tailgate of the 4Runners is a bit different, we have long license plates and the reverse lights in the taillights:
Usually here, diesel 4Runners had the TOYOTA trim in dark gray and V6 ones in light gray.
Mine was dark too (Find an old pic):
So I went to a yard and take a V6 trim
The plate lights will help illuminating the ground, anyways the camera has infrared LED's.
Mark and Dremel
Ready
Here it is in the truck
I've to take pics of the image in the screen. I see my rear bumper and 80cm (31.5'') behind aprox.
I pointed the camera to the ground because if put horizontal you see the whole rear car but you don't know how far it is. Here is a perfect position because I see what I don't using the mirrors.

I use one of the AV inputs of my VGA touchscreen (See my carputer in the GPS & Comm section).
The screen has a wire that switches automatically to the rearview camera when you give 12V, so you can be using the carputer (MP3, GPS...) and you see automatically the rear when parking hehehe
