Sub Boxes

Alright guys,

It's been pretty busy around here lately with school starting back up but I've finally got all my money in the bank, well, most of it and I just ordered a bunch of audio equipment off of my Circuit City discount site. All I need now is a sub-box for my Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 12" subs. Right now with my 2 Memphis's I've just got a plain jane sealed box from a local audio store. Last time I was there they were pushing a Band Bass box, I have heard horrible things about Band Pass boxes.

Is there an online retailer or a certain type of box that is best for our rigs? I'll using my 1500W Infinity Sub amp with the two Perfect 12.1's, what do you think would be the best setup as far as a sub box goes?

Let me know what you think about it guys,

Fink

Do want a sub that sounds good with music....

or something that goes EERURURUGHGGHHGGHGGGGGHHHHHH as loud as it can for 1 sec of pinknoise (my version of an SPL burp)

theres a lot of reasons to build your own. Not all speakers are the same. Generic boxes for specific speakers isnt a good plan considering the amount of money youve spent already.

buying a generic box is Kinda like building a hotrod tweaking the motor and suspension all summer and then putting on 18$ walmart tires and going to the drag strip. Obviously your not going to get the performance you deserve or have the potential for.

IMHO
for further details on advanced box building / car audio, you would best be served by going to some of those online communities that specialize on the subject. Youll get more and better information from there. Think of it in the same way of asking about 4Runner suspension info on a car stereo BBS. you might find one or two fellas that MIGHT know what theyre talking about there, but your best bet is to come to yotatech. y'know ?

So it sounds like in order to get the best performance out of the subs I will be needing to build a box myself...hmm...not sure I'm gonna be able to swing that with as little time as I have right now.

I know that building my own is best, but are there any out there pre-built that are semi-decent?

Thanks again,

Fink

Curious, how much time do you think it takes to build a box ?

Hey...I've been doing the car audio for years. Trust me, building the box is best. It won't take near as long as you think...just make sure it's sealed up real well. I haven't come across any pre-fab boxes that were really worth anything. For a basic box.....3/4 MDF....cut it, seal it, cover it, and go ......sorry, just my thoughts hope they help

The reason it is considered best is because you can build it as good as or crappy as you want, and know exactly what is in there. You can brace extra if you want, create the exact size enclosure that you want for a particular purpose, and most inportantly, built it at the external dimensions that fit your trunk best. It is amazing how SPL driven sounddomain.com is. If you just want a nice custom sized enclosure for your 2 12s, Someone on here can help. Shoot me an email if you want me to personally design you something. I would be happy to help you out, and luckily, I have the same trunk!
Wes

Also, it's cheaper and you learn to do it. And not all bandpass enclosures are the one note producers that most people complain about, but it's easier to get it wrong than a regular sealed or ported enclosure.

You gotta remember that some people, like me, don't own those type of tools or have any access to them. Sometimes you gotta just go and buy a box.

Thats what I'm saying, Its not really the tools as you probably dont need anything that expensive to make them with other than tools to cut and seal with. Its just finding the time, I've got school, football, work, tests, girlfriend...and it just keeps going.

Its just a shame that there are no pre-fab boxes that are worth anything. The one I have right now isn't too bad, but I will check at work and see if any of the employees there would be willin to help me build one.

What I would be looking for in a box would be something that takes up the least amount of space in the trunk, had room enough to mount one or preferably 2 caps and 2 good size amps.

If you guys wanna throw some ideas out there for me that'd be great.

Thanks guys!

Fink

For the cost of a prefab box,,,

you could buy your own basic skill saw, drill, and jig saw and the wood.
and learn a skill in the process.

You then have the box you made yourself and the tools too
(to do it all over again, cause it will happen, part of the audio addiction.)

Hey bumpin' I normally make my own boxes but I want to ask your advice about a box for my 2 12" Eclipse Titaniums. Hit me up on aim sometime if you will please. Dbikeman85 is my aim SN too. I may have you build me a box depending on what is discussed and prices.
