new speakers (pic)
well in my never ending quest to deplete my savings (and checking!) account, here are the speakers i just purchased from crutchfield..

they are "Alpine Type-S SPS171A" component speakers. Anyone have these? are they as good as i hope they are?
i originally got some rockford fosgate speakers from cructhfield, then when i went back to the site the next day, it said they are NOT compatible! how annoying. the guy on the phone said they were having some 'server problems'.
anyway, i returned them for the alpines. any opinions, comments etc are appreciated

Nice speakers. Just an FYI for when you go looking for a sub, there are a ton of places on the internet that are A LOT cheaper than Crutchfield. Even on Alpine products.

Well I'm not too familiar with alpine, but those sure look fancy!
They gotta sound great if they look that good.
And you sound like a car stereo kinda guy, where do you buy all things from. Like subs, the speakers, headunits, etc...
Edit: AUGWE, you must have just posted before I did. You mentioned cheaper places to buy, can you name some of these places. www.discountsjungle.com have the most ridiculous cheap prices I've ever seen, but I'm a JL Audio guy, and they never have any in stock.

second that, I've never bought anything from Crutchfield, I just compared specs on their site. Crutchfield's prices are VERY steep.
Just an example, the Alpine system you just spent $200 on you can get for $125 from HERE.

agreed. crutchfield has a nice catalog and website, but their prices are a bit on the high side. Another thing to keep in mind is, you can find a great deal of high quality components, subs , and amps out there that are not mainstream, that actually sound much better for the $. check these sites out.

Do a Google search for "Wholesale Car Audio" and you will come up with lots of places. That's what I always do. CrutchField is a good place to research the speakers on and what not because they have a lot of information. But, they are definitely more expensive.
My current audio setup in my 2000 4Runner is nothing fancy:
MTX amp and Lightning Audio cap under the front driver's seat &
JL Audio sub in a Q-Logic Q customs box in the back.
It's not fancy but I saved a lot of $$$ buying off the internet. And yes, everything is still under warranty just as if I would have bought it in a store or from Crutchfield.

ouch. that hurts to see them for 125. but they arent selling them to me for 200, theyre selling them to me for 165 since they messed up.
but still, that hurts! if i get a sub, itll be from a cheaper place. i went with crutchfield since my buddy just bought a 6 disc changer and found their instructiosn to be VERY good... so i figured id take a stab at it myself.
ill definitely show you guys some pics when theyre in.
also, if/when i get a sub, itll be from discountjungle probably. they scare me with how low their prices are though

one more q... anyone ever used that dynomat original thats just basically a small square that goes right around the speaker? is it any good / worth the 30 bucks or so?
looks to me like it wouldnt do very much. thanks.

It does help. that being said, i would invest in more though, forum members get 40% off second skin which is like dynamat. you could do all for doors with second skin and it not cost an arm and a leg. btw my trunk is full of dynamat extreme.

The discount comes straight from the second skin rep. When you order, you order straight from them. Shoot them an email and tell them your a forum member. service@secondskinaudio.com

As an alternative to dynamat...look at eDead here:

I would look seriously at the subs they are producing. They are handmade and 1000% quality. They also carry a 3 year warranty. I have one of their 10" subs pushing 500W at 2 ohms in a .67^3 ft box. It hits hard and CLEAN. SQ is what it is all about!!! The CDT's are SQ speakers too. Couple that with the time correction, x-over and eq...

You should go with the second skin, 40% off is pretty damn good considering the stuff is very much like dynamat extreme. Dampening your doors will improve your sound so much and is well worth it IMO. As for the sub, definitely don't get it from crutchfield, there are so many other internet stores with better products for cheaper. I personally like this store, they have awesome customer service, a helpful forum, and free shipping on the Brahmas!
