quick 1st gen 4runner speaker question

Hi all. I am looking to replace the speakers in my late model '85 4runner. The previous owner must have ripped them all out as there's nothing there but holes. The holes do look like stock locations though and cut clean so I'm certain they're not modified at all. From what I can tell the rear speakers are the same size as the front? And again from what I can tell they look to be around 4" but I wanted to ask you guys first before ordering a set. I'd like to keep it stock and have no interest in upgrading, just want to hear my NPR on long trips

So what is the stock size of front and back speakers and does anyone have any suggestions for some decent cheap speakers for them?

thanks.

4" in front dash and 5 1/4" in rear panels. If their stock holes anyway.

As far as speakers I bought all mine from Walmart . Dual brand is carried here and their like 25 dollars a pair. So if they get damaged ( rain, and weather from doors being off) I haven't really lost any money

dual is garbage. stock actually sounds real good, but go with infinity or jbl +1 edge speakers and you won't be sorry... the best thing walmart has is pioneer, and thiose are cheap. i'm extremely experienced in this subject. if you want less then the infinity/jbl, go to a junk yard. even good stock bose, infinity, toyota (89-? ) out of another vehicle might do well on head unit power. others will waste power, sound tinny, etc especially onhead unit power.

i'd get some decent speakers, it makes a difference even when only listening to voice/NPR/audiobooks. back when I did research on quality 4" speakers, I ended up with Boston Acoustics and am very happy with them in my pickup, the 6" Pioneers I paired with later not so much. Infinity makes some great speakers too, I've installed a few different ones in different vehicles, the plate speakers and component speakers being the two favored ones. I believe if you want lots of volume for stock head unit power, you need like 2ohm instead of 4. Don't quote me on that

well i did a little more looking at the runner and came up with something interesting. I measured the distance between mounting holes and it turns out the rear speakers are 4"? I don't think they're stock because the cabling going to them is house transparent speaker wire. So looks like my 4runner didn't come with factory rear speakers....

the infinity and jbl "+1+" speakers i mentioned are 2ohm, with 4ohm topology. this means you won't blow the head unit like a true 2ohm speaker, but you will gain the power out of the head unit without distortion. yes the bostons are nice, but i lump them in with the rest of the peakers that should be active (amplified) run at cruising volume. for something like npr, true bias (class a) is going to be worth more than high-end speakers. i have also never found an aftermarket speaker as efficient and responsive as many factory speakers, which is why i suggest it. i wonder if you can fit factory 89+ boxes in the back. they are quite impressive, while the 4" speakers in the front should do your heavy lifting for voice clarity.
