I'm installing an amp and NOS Infinity Kappa 6.5" component speakers. Comparing the Infinity tweeters to the stock tweeters it looks like the stock pieces are more substantial. The magnet is heavier and it looks as though it can produce a wider range of sound. I'm wondering if I should just use them in conjunction with the Kappa crossovers. It appears as if I'd just need to remove the little capacitor soldered to the tweeter to have the crossovers work as they're designed to.

 

You can tell the dynamic range of a tweeter by looking at it? News to me. Without a doubt, the Infinity's are a better speaker than your 9 year old stockers. Magnet size has little to do with a tweeter's ability to accurately reproduce high frequencies. If you really want to try it, just hook them up temporarily and compare them.

 

I was referring to the cone size of the tweeter. The stockers have a cone, whereas the kappas look non-existent. Though it is hard to look through the little grill.

But I guess I might just have to to do a side by side comparison.

 

I have an Alpine head unit with Alpine speakers mounted in the doors. The head unit is also wired to power the stock tweeters. I can tell you from experience that I've had to use the fader to put most of the sound through the door speakers. The stock tweeters pop and scratch horribly. Go ahead pull your dash apart and wire em both up and give them a listen.

 

Subwoofers quality can be someone assessed by the structure and largeness of the Magnet and Beefy surrounds....Tweeters are not even comparable by a looks standard...what i can tell you is Aftermarket, particularly anything of quality name is going to produce sound much better than stock old speakers.

Visually if the cone or output opening is paper like, you are going to be dissapointed in the sound quality, period. Metal on tweeters is ideal, or some very tough and rigid material such as Carbon Fiber, etc. etc. it has to vibrate at very high frequency and paper cones and stock tweeters are just not well suited for this...

 

All of these folks are correct. Without a doubt, use the Infinity tweeters. Infinity is an amazing company and their products are outstanding. With tweeters it's not about having a big surround. Tweeters are meant to produce your highs, not bass. Having a larger surround will normally produce more bass whereas a tweeter is not designed to do so. The Clarion tweeters I just finished installed have about a 1/16 of an inch of surround and let me tell you, they sound phenomenal. Take the time to wire the Infinity's in place of your oem units.
