In the door panel? In the door 5 1/2s I'd recommend some nice Alpines. I lean towards them though, they've treated me awesome. Are you sure you don't mean under the steering wheel? Thats where the stock front speakers are and those are 4 1/2s.

Well, it all depends what you're looking for. I like the sound and clarity I got out of the type R speakers, but I don't know if they make 5.25. The Type X which are a step down, only like 90 US, 5-1/4" Type-S Series Coaxial 2-Way Speaker, are on their website. You can get them for less at the audio places.

Yeah I'm positive they are 5.25's. I took out the 4 1/2's from under the dash and put some crappy ass Kicker 5.25's in. I just want a better speaker thats all.

Although I dont have them, alot of people seem to like the Infinity's. I believe Bike4Miles has them?

If you are just going to power the speakers off of your HU, I'd say got with Infinity. I had 6 1/2 and 4" in my doors and they sounded great.

Hey man if your looking for something I have a set of phoenix gold 5.25 coax that are pretty damn nice. I used them for about 6 months before I got a component set and put them in the component box. I'll let em go pretty cheap hit me up if your interested. Thanks-Sampson

93blue, how much are you looking to spend? if you could pick up a 2 channel amp rated around 75 to 100 watts RMS per channel, and a 5 1/4" component set, your sound quality would be 100 times better than running coaxials off the head unit.

best is subjective. but i know you're probably looking for a 'direction' or at least to have it narrowed down.

i read alot of member reviews here and then went to some audio forums. found out that i liked what i read about CDT speakers, esp their components. i went ahead and purchased some CDT EF51 components from a seller on cardomain.com named Don Smith (djdillion?) at islandsound1@yahoo.com. It is $160 shipped to me in CA. Seems like an excellent price as compared to other brands.

This should fit really nicely in the Q-logic kick panels that I also bought from HaveBlue for $35 shipped. So all in all, for a reasonable $200, I'm (hopefully) going to have a much better sounding system. Oh, I already have an amp, so that's why I decided to buy components.

Bob

Had the 5.25" Focal Coaxes in my 3rd generation....they had no bass response and made my front components sound terrible. I would only recommend the components from Focal...They Rock...you can get them cheap at woofersetc.com

^^^ agreed! I have Alpine Type R 5 1/4" and they sound great. For the price, you cant go wrong with Type Rs. I like the series so much I have 2 12" subs and im gonna get the 6X9s as well.

How much you wanna spend?

I also agree that Alpines are excellent speakers, I have some in my other vehicle and my sis has some. For my truck, I went cheap and got Pioneer 5 1/4 speakers for the back. For $50 - $70 you can get some Pioneer 3way 5-1/4's off ebay. I run them and Pioneer 2way (TS1018 fit factory spot in front dash) off my head unit and IMO they sound damn good for the money I spent.

the best sound

i've read what everyone had to offer by way of an opinion on what is the best when it comes to sound, so pardon me while i chime in my two cents worth as a second-nature audiophile( yes, you actually have to be one in order to both know how to spell it & know what it means). everyone is talking "Infiniti", "Alpine", even "Rockford Fosgates" & some other letter-only type speakers, but i hear no mention of the as of yet unsurpassed "Polk Audio" brand of speaker.
engineered by both a master of, & pioneer in, audio technology w/the only patented dynamically balanced, linear-laser, w/synchronized frequency harmonics, speaker cone technology on the market, period!... yes, folks, i'm talking about a Mr. Matthew Polk, P.E.;M.
i have used almost every brand you guys listed in your posts here & elsewhere on the site & have determined through 1st. hand experience that nothing compared to the audio reproduction, clarity, expansion & fullness of sound that i get from the "Polk Audio" speakers that i've got in my rig & they're only the 4" oem size (because i subscribe to the "...out of sight-out of mind..." philosophy)!!! i still recieve comments from various people (friends & others) who ride w/me somewhere on how "good" my system sounds & about how they can "...'hear parts' &/or the 'sound(s) of instruments & lyrics' that they've 'never heard in the same song' on their systems..." & these are people pushing aftermarket systems, competition grade even (which, admittedly, does seem to be more oriented towards loudness & not necessary clarity), & me w/just my stock, oem radio, too!
don't get me wrong, each brand named has it's own merits, what w/"Infiniti's" high end of the spetrum clarity (although back in the day when "Polk" first hit the market w/their single unit flagship speaker, it took two(2) of "Infiniti's" speaker units [& admittedly, @ the time, only "Infiniti" could do it] to even nibble @ the lead in the competition, & then "Polk" turned his up...!), while "Alpine" has primarily been better known for their tuner & amplifier technology (& i genuinely like "Alpine") & "RF" for it's pure, brute strength in the amplifier market, no other manufacturer has even come close to the true to life audio reproduction standard that "Polk" set quite some time ago, according to my research.
finally, it trully does seem to have been better back when apples were apples & oranges were oranges...oh, wait...it still is!!! well, that's my two cents worth on the subject, as a second-nature audiophile.
later,
frankenrunner
