you don't need the amp. remove it and hook up the aftermartet cd player. even if you put in a system you still won't use the factory amp, you'll use the 4 channels from the head unit or from another aftermarket amp if you install a set of component speakers.

I put a new Kenwood HU in my '93 2nd gen and my rear panel speakers stopped working. now only the rear uppers work. help please.

i posted this reply in another thread but had no response. has anybody had this problem and been able to resolve it???? everything is wired correctly. the one thing i noticed is that the smaller of the two connectors on the new wiring harness has only four wires/prongs whereas the female factory connector has five. Could this one wire be the difference and if so how?????
thanks
brett

Problem solved!! My recommendation is to go for it and hook everything up as normal b/c that works for most people and if two of your rears don't work then let me know and i'll post what worked for me

Talking "!the!" solution

yongxing, the easiest & quikest way for you to solve your problem is to go to your locale super-mega-whatever department store (or even the locale "RadioShack"), go to the "car audio" section & purchase a "universal wiring harness adapter" (you'll need either "TAO 1"-for '82-'86 models, or, "TAO 2"-for '87 & up models, or their equivalent).
then, while i've posted step by step instructions on how to remove your factory radio for a "din" replacement here on this site, i would suggest that you go to "SLCPunk@4runner.org" for really great step by step instructions on removal & reinstallation of your head unit (that means "stereo")complete w/color pictures & all!
good luck & later,
frankenrunner
