Powered Antennas?

Has anyone ever heard of or seen a powered FM antenna for cars? I would love to be able to put a nice stubby antenna in place of my (broken) motorized antenna. Car audio forums are useless and seem to have nothing on the subject. I woudl love to get rid of the crappy motorized antenna and get good radio reception at the same time. I don't see why home FM transmitters can have power but cars can't.

Also, I know some car companies have powered antennas, but I don't understand why there's no aftermarket.

First pics says it's for a Scion, but the link doesn't work for me.

I wonder what it would take to maybe make the roof rack into an antenna.
Or maybe one of the roof mount discs that police and taxis use.

People do talk about them. I wonder what if you bought one for a house and snipped the end off and wired in into your stock antenna.

"We decided that there was room in the glovebox to conceal a radio, and we could install speakers in the kick panels, just in front of each door. But where do you put the antenna? Certainly, we would not drill a hole through that gorgeous fiberglass body to add an ugly stainless steel stick. Hmmm .. fiberglass? That was it!

Fiberglass is transparent to radio waves, so we decided that we would add a small, amplified antenna INSIDE the trunk and run the coaxial antenna cable under the carpeting and into the glovebox. After a quick trip to our local Radio Shack store, we had exactly what we needed and proceeded to route the antenna cable as planned."
