95 pickup running rich, low power
Hi guys, last week I had a guy come into my shop for an oil change on his 95 pickup, he mentioned it was running poorly and dint have any power, so I offered him $300 to take it off his hands and he jumped at it.
Anyhow now I'm trying to diagnose and fix its issues. at idle and under throttle, the exhaust smells gassy. While driving, it has severely low power and sputters a bit when you lean into the throttle. To me this means rich condition, so here's what I've done:
Changed plugs and wires, #4 plug came out carbon fouled on HALF, which I've not seen before
Checked timing chain and guides, all are in good condition
Ran sea foam through
Ran a dry compression test and comps were 176, 173, 175, 171
And finally, I opened up he top of the AFM and rotated the gear clockwise by 4 ticks to lean it out. This very much improved the condition, it has more power and doesn't sputter under more throttle, but it still feels low on power, especially in 2nd. It also doesn't seem to idle as smooth.
With the AFM adjustment I'm almost confident to start driving it, but I'm concerned that it's just covering up another issue, and don't want to run some cylinders too lean if, say, #4 is the one causing he rich condition.
Anyone have any insight or advice on how to proceed? I really dig the truck and I know if I can get it in good running condition I'll have a vehicle worth significantly more then I payed for it.
Thanks in advance!

Im assuming because of your compression results that the truck is a 22re? I would put the AFM back to stock, your just covering up the problem. Test the AFM and TPS per Factor service manual. Whats the timing set at?
