Bass shakers, heard of them?

I have been looking into a system for my truck for a while and recently I had someone in the stereo businness tell me to check these out.
http://www.aurasound.com/
Click on Bass Shakers then click on the AST-3B-4 spec sheet for all of the details.
He runs them in his Toyota truck and says that his friends and him have been running them for years. They run them in the back of the cab. They seems like a great product if you have speakers to fill in the rest of the frequency range. They just sound too good to be true so I thought I would ask around about them. Thanks.

I've had them in a home theater many years ago. They do work, and work great. I had 6 x 35w models and it was enough to knock you down, literally. If turned up the floor would vibrate and it felt like your legs become numb and you have to fight to stay up.

Mounting location is most important. If you mount the pair under the seats it would definitely be a very unique sensation.

shakers

what you are referring to is called a transducer. several people made them, and they really never caught on. They are cool to use in a house because you can double up and put some in reverse phase and they will keep sound from leaving the room while still providing a nice bass experience. Pioneer actually made a seat cushion for cars with transducers that I always wanted to check out. It would play music and you could also set it to give you a nice back rub. Sounded cool but they were ugly as hell. Anyway, they do work but as stated before, make sure you have enough mid bass in your system or it will be lame.

And here it is:

Even one when turned up is enough to rattle something inside the doors. I’d equate the “feel” of music to a quality 12” in the back.

So, 4RUNR, are they worth it? On Ebay, you can get them for 24.88 each. Im thinking of buying 2 to accent my 10" subs. Would you reccomend them or should I forget it? Do they just rattle or do they really produce bass sensation?

They seem like a great idea....

Definitely not rattling. Most of the sound will come not from the units themselves but rather from the surface they are mounted on, so placement and excellent coupling to the surface would be responsible for 99% of the sound.

If you already have a place to power them from, then @ just $50 definitely go for it.

That is a stupid product.
So when you compare your friends car in a parking lot, you can say yours is louder because it shakes more.
Buy a bigger amp and somebigger speakers.

Hyperlite,
I dont really have the cash to spend on a new system and my parents would be pretty ticked cuz they had trouble with me spending money on my current system.
They just seem cool.
Plus, I have a 20x4 watt amp laying around i could put to good use.

4RUNR, do you have to drill through to the body panel to mount them? Cuz I'm in the salt belt and the fewer holes and exposed metal the better! I could probly cover 'em up with somethin' though.

Also, do you think the floor panel on an extended cab pickup would be enough panel to be Shaked? (In comparison to a 4runner floor panel.)

Yup, I bolted it down straight through the floor. You can hit it with some rubber undercoating from underneath.

You'd have to play with placement, you don't need to mount them, just put them up to the panel and put some force on them. That will give you a rough idea of how the panel resonates. I guarantee you, you'll be surprised how well there things work, that's speaking from experience and not an ignorant comment without actually trying the product

Definitely not louder, I think you miss the point of this product.

Shakes more...yes. Louder...nope.

Jim

PS: I think if you don't have room for a sub, it's pretty cool. If you do have room...there is no substitute for the real thing.

hyper, you misunderstand the function of transducers.

as 4runr points out, the surface where the transducers are mounted one vibrates. hence the name of the aura products.

the notion that bass only comes from subwoofers is wrong.

i sat in a demo car from aura a few years ago.

while the bass was NOT as good as a subwoofer, i spent about 10 minutes tearing apart the rear trunk area of their taurus, looking for a hidden woofer.

again, it's best to mount them UNDER the seats.

Thanks for all the relies guys. It looks like I'm going to get a pair. I would have liked to use one of their amps too but couldn't find one on ebay. I'm going to try running an 8" to fill the high bass along with some 5x7" infiniti cappa components and some 4" Boston Acoustics.
I'm glad there is a way to get a good sounding stereo in an extended cab. I was starting to loose hope on retaining the back seats. Nice setup 4RUNR, what other stereo stuff do you have? Thanks again for the help guys.

Just a pair of 6.5" inside the driver wall in the cargo area, there's a thread somewhere in the main forum with the picture.

Sounds good enough for a car. Real stereo is at home
