taking off the top
i own a 85 4runner and a 88 pick up and i would like to make them both full top convertible, but be able to put the top back on when it rains. has any one done this?

What exactly are you wanting to do? Swap the hard top between the 4Runner and pickup? Remove the 4Runner top and put soft tops on both vehicles? Modify the 4Runner hard top to be something different?

They were modified by ASC IIRC. No company that I know makes a kit, but top shops and sunroof companies would be your best lead.
Try ASC (american sunroof company) They built and installed the factory convertible tops on Toyota Celicas, MR2's, and Solaras.

Hey did you ever figure out any tips on how to do this. That's what I want to do to my first gen too. I was thinking moonroof, but hell.. just want the whole thing to be able to come off and put it back on of course. Have to mod the doors too and build a full roll cage.
