This all started as practice so I did not put much time or thought into the design. But it turned out allright but if going to actually use it I'm going to have to strip the paint off and fix a few things. Here's a pic of it mounted on a junk 88 hood. What do you think, don't be afraid to say it's ugly.

 

Any idea what I should use to cover the seam between the scoop and the hood. I thought of jawing ither bond or glueing some kind of trim all around the edge.
And should I put some kind of screen or leave it open?

i like it. function over form! if you want to seal it to the hood you could use household weatherstripping with the sticky on one side and stick it to the bottom of the scoop. that way you can remove the scoop if you ever want to (you know, in case of bird entry or some thing, lol). as far as a screen its personal choice. i dont run one cause i figure the air filter will catch whatever enters. are you gonna pipe it to the airbox or just vent the engine compartment? not boasting but check out my thread in here on the scoop i did. maybe you could improve and make a better setup than i did.

 

First of all sorry about spelling iPhone is always changeing words I ment to say trying not jawing. Il have to check out yours. I'm curious how big of a whole you cut and how did you plumb it into your air box. And how did you keep water out.

I stripped the paint off this morning and fixed slot of the welds it's looking better. I'm going to paint my whole truck soon so I might wait untell then to mess with the transition between the scoop and hood.

 

Well finished REpainting. Probably mount it uP tomorrow. I'm a little hesitant a out cutting a hole in my hood but I have a spare if I mess up. I don't think I'm going to plumb it Into my air intake I already did the battery airbox swap so it would be easier but I don't feel like doing it now maybe later. This is a little off topic but while I was waiting for the paint to dry I made this

 

I'm digging the tool box. I think the hood looks good, especially for a first try.

 

Yeah if I make another one I'll do alot of things different it will bolt down from the inside. And I might make it into more of a dual scoop stye. And i would make the top part of the scoop first, contour it to the shape of the hood and then weld on the bottom part with this one i shaped the bottom to the hood and the worked up but with all the welding it does not fake much to get it out of wack. But I don't know if I'll make another one for the truck. Thought about puting this one on the isuzu rodeo but the wife said no.

Are you planning on repainting the hood? (maybe I missed that)

 

Im going to repaint everything soon. I did not want to drive into town to get the Paint that matched the hood.

I was kind of surprised the hood scoop does not really interfere with visibility, but its kind of distracting when driving Down the road.

 

Ok, where do I send my money to get one for my '87 4Runner ? Living in the south I know she would like some cool air running through the engine compartment.

 

Yeah I bet it would like a little cool air. Never been to Florida but it's hot I know that much.

Sometimes I wonder how much difference the temp is in yor engine compartment in winter VS summer. And what kind of HP gain would you get in the winter. I wish I would have logged the engine compartment temps VS now with the scoop.
