Old Gas - drain or run?
Hey all,
Going to get an 86 4-runner (carb) back on the road. Good condition but been sitting 3 years. Warm dry climate. Ran when parked, and started one time, one year ago. Has a quarter tank of gas that is now 3 years old.
Top off with new gas and try to start? (what could possibly go wrong?)
or
Drain old gas first? If so, what is best way - bottom plug or top hatch?

The lawnmower likes it
Being I cleaned out the tank during the R&R of my 91 4X4 anyway, I decided to feed it to the lawnmower rather than the rig or throw it out. The new fuels deteriorate faster than they used to, all those modern chemicals form solids..

I pulled the drain plug under the rock guard and of course the cap
I've heard the threads are corroded together damaged during removal, depends on part of the country you be in I guess. I had no issue myself.
When I did it all lines forward of the filter union were out of the rig.
Not sure how much difference it makes(draining old fuel) did it as it was simple and painless for GP on a 25 y/o beast (got a few grains of sand and some fine detritus in the bucket)coffee filtered it into the mower. I soak/flushed it out with a 50/50 mixture of Purple Power, not advice, just what I did with no ill effects
