Tacoma Solid Axle Swap
#132
Just talked to Chris, they were just screwing with our minds on the backwards axle thing. The bar they were using to try and check the shackle angles was flexing too much so they had to use the axle instead. Now they're trying to figure out the angles for the knuckles and pinion.

Okay, a chance to update you. I have been fabbing parts all day and haven't really taken a net break.
The spring hangers are all on and the springs are hanging from them. We went with shackles that are 6" hole to hole. Hopefully that will be the right size.
As Shane mentioned, we had to use the axle to compress the springs to see how the shackle angle worked out. Since the axle had perches on the bottom for the original spring under configuration, we flipped it over and used those perches to catch the centering pins. Sorry if we got your heart rate up, we wondered in advance if anyone would notice
ChrisCo is currently fabbing some new spring perches for spring over, JRuz is assembling steering components, look for a photo of steering stuff soon.
I am doing some research on pinion angles and caster angles, under the camera, but I am here. We are still hoping to get the axle under the truck tonight now that we have a plan for setting the correct angles...

Thats the plan. We are prepping some perches now so we can set approximate angles, then we will set the truck on it and look at angles. THEN, we will pull it all off, set the permanant angles for pinion and caster, then put it on and bolt it all up.
We are turning the knuckles at the knuckle end, not the whole tube
Turning the whole tube looked like WAY to much make work...

ChrisCo said EXACTLY the same thing when he saw that one.
I was welding on the second spring perch so we can drop the truck on the axle in the morning
ChrisCo says that is the "Ghost of Fabrications Past".
