Shane hit the nail on the head. At the moment, while the suspension part is done, the driveline is not. I will be doing things in this order for "Phase II";
  • Rear gears
  • New tranny crossmember
  • Remove stock crossmember
  • Front gears/locker
  • Custom front driveshaft
  • Chromoly axle shafts/CTM U-joints

THEN I will be fully a 4x4 again.

Thank you, Shane and Rob, gents for the kindly informative responses. I had reasoned in my mind what you were talking about, I just wanted to make sure that what I reasoned and what were reality were in agreement. Sounds like Phase II will be some major moola. Hope you find a money tree on your next off-road outing!

Are we racing? You know, it is generally considered to be polite to inform all the participants in a race that they are in fact racing... Otherwise they don't know they should be in a hurry

I never said race... and note I said slim chance, as in snowball-in-hell chance

Rob, what time are you going to be at Doxon's?
I would love to come down there and look at it, but I have to head off to bed here soon.

We have about 4" of shaft showing at rest. We have been watching it carefully and are doing the wire-tie trick to measure travel. I am going to keep an eye on it for the next couple of days and see what comes of it, but since we are not using all the downtravel that the shock has available, I will likely just go to a slightly shorter shock if it comes to that. I also need to investigate some bump stops before I negative arch the springs too many times... Ahhhhhh, the fine tuning part... hehehhe

We spent yesterday moving the shackle hangers back so we could go with a shorter shackle. I was a bit too nose high and we had 7" shackles, any shorter caused them to lay back against the frame during compression. Now I am level to slightly nose down and the shackles are down to 5 1/4" in length, with no risk of laying back or inverting, so we are pretty happy there.
whoa only 4" man? that's now wnought, take your truck to and rti or something like it and test it, with only 4" you are not getting all your travel, thats what i've seen.
let me know how it turns out.
good luck
Oz.

i haven't been following this whole thing very closely. Probably because I have already experienced the "joy" the goes along with doing a SAS but did you put in new rear leaves too?

I don't think he's touched his rear end yet.

Wait, that sounds kind of gross....

Yep. That is why I am saying it's in the "fine tuning" stage... I will debug things like that and fix them

Nope. For the moment, the rear works as is, so once I run out of things to do, it will become more of a priority.
