A few of the more gear-headed types "got" it, but the rest of them just stood around shaking their heads... The salesman who originally sold me the truck seemed to be more impressed by the snorkel than by the SAS, go figure...

Taking my truck to the dealership is the funniest thing ever. Tomorrow will be a riot too when I take it to this local place to get the rear brakes done. I have to go home tomorrow for turkey day and have been in bed with 102 degree temp for many days so taking it to the shop is now my only option...

Who Was Your Salesman, Rob?

Was it Joe? When I was considering a new Tacoma, I talked to Joe at Doxon. We were talking about offroading, and before long, your name came up. Referred to you as some kind of 'offroad ringleader'. I said, "yep. That's the guy. That's Rob."

As a side note, after our email correspondence regarding the new Tacomas, I decided to go retro. The '84 solid axle truck Corey was driving around last weekend is the truck I purchased instead of a new one. Excellent condition, 79K original miles. I'll post a pic eventually.

BTW...your truck has always set the standard in many ways around here. Even more now. Look forward to seeing it in person.
Great job!

Jim

Thank you very much for the compliment.

You are going to be VERY happy with your "new" '84. Remember this famous '84? It certainly fueled my passion for Toyota trucks...

The salesman I bought my '95.5 Tacoma from is no longer with Doxon, but when it came time to buy this one, I didn't want to screw around with the normal "I'll ask my manager" crap, so I built the truck I wanted on the Toyota site, then contacted Jim Bartoy, Doxon's internet sales guy and told him what I wanted and what I would pay for it. We went back and forth a few times via email, getting the price and features right, then he sent me a mail saying it was sitting on their lot with my name on the "Sold" sign. I went in the next day, signed the paperwork and took delivery. Easiest vehicle I ever bought

I know Joe, he's one of the guys down there who "gets" what I am doing. We have spent a lot of time standing around chatting about what is coming next. He's good people.

Indeed!

I spent some quality time making screen captures from the movie a year or so ago to prove a point in another thread. That is my favorite. Right as the garage door is opened up and Marty gets his first glimpse of "his" truck

I used to fantasize about opening the garage door and seeing that sitting in there... It never happened. Now I have a truck that begins to compare, but I don't have a garage And even if I did, it doesn't fit in most residential garages anyway

hehehheh Thanks! It's a real shot in the arm to hear that someone, somewhere ranks my rig in the same class as THAT truck I swear that when I was younger, I would have given my right arm to own that truck. Now I am finally building the truck I always wanted...

But, it does at least fit into the garage at work! hehe

I think I almost had the fantasy as you're refering to when I'd come out for my late night/early morning smokes and saw your rig (even on the jack stands) in my garage hehe

At lunch, I discovered that it does not fit "quite" as well going UP the ramp. Even at slow speed, the antenna/"roof feeler" hits I suspect that my days of doing the Dukes of Hazard thing up that ramp are over unless I want to scrape the XM antenna off, or worse

That's the advantage to having this much hair, it takes a lot of gray before it shows. It's there, just hidden

So, making it a convertable is Phase III?

What is it with the parking garages there at work? You'd think they'd make 'em accessable to the "fit-through-the-door challenged" folks who work there

I'll second that... although, there are days where there's just not enough hair to cover it all...

EDIT: I meant that as in I can see my own gray sometimes... not refering to you ol' man... er, I mean Rob hehe
