Bobbing my bed - There is a Dragon in my garage!!

A Drag-Gun That is...

So i started my bed bob. right now i cut off 12 inches but it might end up more cuz i apparently cant cut straight lines. the welder is coming back this weekend so i should have it welded on by next week sometime. Need to do some more cutting of the trailer hitch and a little bit of the rear frame, but most of the cutting is pretty much done.

Heres the first cut. we had a buddy who didnt use his tailgate and such, just welded some stuff over the open bed rails and pit lights on it. I didnt like how it turned out, so im reusing the rear end of the bed.

then i measured 12" in and cut again.

had the hardest time getting the body mounts off for that section of bed. man i hate rust. had to break out the grinder.

then this is just the end sitting back on the frame. this is what it shold look like when finished.

well see how welding goes,my beds pretty dented and my cuts arnt exactly straight.

i had to move it out of the garage for a bit so my buddy with the 81 yota could wash and wax his truck so he can sell it (CLEAN 81 Pickup. so its out side at the moment. well see how sunday goes.

ill be ordering a spool on monday then i can put my rear third in again. then bumpers.

the fun starts now!!

you had a plasma cutter, but used a grinder on the mounts?

When I had to take off the rusted bolts on my bed, I just used a plasma to cut through the bolt.

It was a weak plasma. i wasn't really impressed with it.

Edit: Also got the rear bumper done. Uses 2x3x1/4 inch steel and put it right into the frame rails. ill get some pics soon.

Well I keep going through tail lights... Just like in the pics above.

Thinking about making a flat piece to sit in the factory spot, sort of kitty cornered in there with some small lights.

Sort of like this, but reassessed a little to keep the trees away.

Any thoughts?

what about building a bumper that wraps around the back of the truck then loops over the lights to guard them and back down to the bumper

Nice body work. I helped a friend do that to his yota, they can be tricky.
I agree on protecting it with a full rear bumper. Maybe adding sides to the one you have, just a thought, wouldn't be much more work.

Ha, the bumpers been done since 2010. My beds destroyed, so there isnt any point in trying to protect it. Its rusting off the truck from the underside.
