If im correct it would be 14 bolt rear and Dana 60 front. Unless your doing some hard core crawling or mud bogging or planning on running a 44" tire I would go for it, It would be a can of warms, Axles wouldn't turn with the 22r/re or 3.Slow. Youd need v8 power

So your saying unless you need them, I would go for it? And the axles will turn just the same with either a 454 or a 1932 friend engine with 3.5 friend power. It doesn't matter how strong your axles are, the added weight will have effect on things but no more then an exo cage. But gearing and tire size will play a part in it all, not how much your axle weighs or the size of he bearings.

It kinda does. My buddy put Dana 60s under his jeep with 2.5 L 4 banger. He is swapping a 350 in it now cause the 4 banger had trouble rolling his 37's with 4.56 gears. Was only getting up to 55 on highway. So power does have something to do with it. The shop I worked we built a zuk with stock 4 banger and 60s and 35s. It did decent in city but 45 was its top speed. We trailered it to comps and trail runs. Power is needed for DD duty. If its a trail rig towed then 4 banger is fine

Ya 37's and 4.56 gears will be way under powered with a 4 banger.
Agian nothing to do with what axle your running.

Id just build up the old chevy. Maybe make it in to a tow rig. Just a idea. 454 is powerful, and with 1ton axles, be a great hauler if not a trail rig.

Don't build the Chevy. Who wants to keep pouring gas into a 454, or take a long ride in an a old tow rig?
You can eventually throw those axles under your toy, as stated earlier, people do it all the time, checkout sky manufacturing, they should have some of what u need. You should never have to worry bout axle strength on the trails again (after you get you gearing worked out with the 4 banger power plant).

Thats weird, a 3.4 with 4.55 gears and 33's doesnt get 22 on the freeway. Maybe i should get a bigger more outdated motor that wasnt known ever for getting over 20mpg then ill stick 37" tires under it with big heavy axles. The math just dont add up buddy.

IF your getting 22mpg with that set up, you need to let the Big 3 know how your doing it since they cant get a gas engine 3/4 or 1 ton to get pass 18-20 on highway with stock tires and similar axles

Wouldn't GM try and kill him for subverting their plans for selling inefficient trucks made with engineering that was new and exciting 60 years ago?
Just hope their assassins are as incompetent as the people that made the Captiva...

I know plenty of guys rolling around town with one tons, 37"+ tires and the 22re. You're going to hate driving on the freeway, but I don't know if it would be stable at freeway speeds. Who knows

Oh and Im sure they all get 30mpg to. Im actually looking into how I can get my brakes to drag more so that I can get better gas milage. I just can't wait to stick an old 460 in my yota and run some 400:1 ratio rockwell axles with 44'' deflated super swampers while pulling a 38 foot toy hauler so I can finally get better milage out of this darn truck.

I miss my old 81 1ton with a prepped 454.

Literally could watch the gas gauge go down on the strip as the speedometer climbed!
