Alright so it turns out the bearing is the one on the idler shaft and is not avaliable or on back order awesome right so I'm wondering if when trail gear sells these units do they replace the bearings or just swap out the gear set?

Well I.have been hearing a loud gear huming noise everytime I was in 4wd so I already had the trans out for the clutch and thought I would tear into the t case and see I I could figure iy out well it spun a bearing on one of the shafts and would you believe this is a trail gear unit piece of junk if you ask me, now I'm down even longer.
Pretty sure Trail Gear only sells gear sets and has a life time warranty on all of parts in them.

At least mine does.

Check with them directly, their customer service is pretty good. Also the install instructions are here if it helps:

Brian, when I bought that thing from TG their ad specified "rebuilt with all new bearings". I see that the ad no longer has that language to it and I cannot prove that the other ever existed. It now pretty much echos what Marlins ad states..."fully rebuilt and inspected". Schaefer was pretty skeptical of the "all new bearings" aspect of things but in the end I went for it. When I added up the cost of gears, major rebuild kit, machining the front section of the case etc. it was really very little cost to just get the assembled unit. So I don't know if they replaced the bearings with new or not, but that was my understanding. Since you're "in it" maybe you can tell, maybe not. Sorry to hear its giving you trouble.

Anyone know if this person is on here? Thinking about checking it out but might be hard to shift and spin without shifters to make sure it isn't rough or make noise.

Free Stuff !!

Gone/tossed
Thanks for looking

I've been cleaning out the garage as you might have surmised from the steady stream of miscellaneous stuff I've been advertising on the board.

Today I came across my old bag of trail spares for the 22re. If you can use the parts they are yours for the trouble of picking them up or meeting me somewhere mutually convenient.

1 set of plug wires
1 ignition rotor
1 distributor cap
3 coolant hoses for a full set
3 v belts for a full set
1 brand new, unused Fel Pro water pump gasket

Other than the gasket the parts are all used but in reasonable shape and certainly good emergency backups. If you want 'em speak up and post it here to determine who spoke up first.

Going to be taking my 3.4 swap out for its maiden voyage Saturday, just to Butcher to keep it simple for the first time. If I can get my CB in by then it would be easy to meet up with any one out there. Do you guys use a certain channel for Yotatech guys in AZ?

Trail is pretty unpredictable about how hard its going to be due to rain and rocks moving around.

I was planning on going to Red Creek (see thread in AZ forum for directions) this weekend but maybe this one is worth going on instead.

I would be down to do Red Creek. I have been to Sheeps Bridge half dozen times, but not coming from the I-17 side. I have never done Red Creek so it would be fun to something different. From what I saw I would say mud springs is much harder than red creek. What does your truck have, tire size, lockers, sliders? You wanting to go at night or morning?

Found the rear diff pinion flange loose while driving it tonight...pinion nut wasn't even staked after pulling the drive shaft.

Feels like a lot of play between the pinion and ring gear, hopefully the lsd is still good but the 5.29's might be toast.

Anyone have a good diff guy? Is zuk still working during the summer? Or does someone have a setup third with 5.29's they want to sell?

ZUK has been chiming in now and the on here so it looks like he is still around - I suggest sending him a PM and see what he says. He is in Chandler. Last summer when I needed to have the gears done in my 4Runner I contacted him and he was willing to help me out but I had to bring my diff's to him.

I ended up getting it all done at Sierra Expeditions - they had the best price by far, they did everytying - I just dropped the truck off and a few hours later it was ready. They even took care of the 500 mile break in check up/oil change; and I trust them more than any other shop around town. I go there for everything anymore - Will and Kyle are the best!

Sierra Expeditions just moved to a new place about 3 miles or so from their previous location - they are now on Broadway just east of the 101 in Mesa - 480 968-9689:
