Awesome that you made it out there! Looks like you took the side trail to whats left of that cabin area. The last standing building looks worse and worse everytime I see it. Last time I was there the roof part on the right side of the structure was still up. The first time I went out there, about 7 years ago, just behind that structure, the original out house was still standing too.

These pics are about 3 years old:

yea, thanks for the idea! It sucks that these places are disappearing and with them is their history...I've been searching all morning for info on that spot and can find nothing.

Here's the map detail of where it is if anyone knows more on what it was, when it was built etc. that would be cool..

Same with this spot near Box Canyon:

Are you talking about this place in Florence right after Box Canyon:

or this one on the way into Box Canyon:

Unfortunately I don't know much about either, but my friend Bill (guy with the big black Cherokee) knows that area better than anyone, I'll ask him about both

I have 2 books of Arizona Ghost Towns, I'll see if there is anything in there about them - When I first got those books I was kind of obsessed with going to visit as many as I could, but my one friend I used to go wheelin with all the time lost interest so its been a while since I went ghost town hunting, but if anyone is interested going exploring.... I have about 30 of them plotted out in my map books.

They are great family trips - Most of the ones I know about are fairly easy to get to and not too far. There are alot of them in the Wickenburg area: Stanton - Octave - Congress - Weaver. There are a bunch not too far south of Florence: Blue Bird - Copper Creek - Sibley.

I'd like to do a run over at Montana Mtn soon. I think its in Florence - it is down the 60, about 3 miles east of 79 where ya turn right to get to Box Canyon. I was there about 5 years ago. Its alot of fun, not too hard unless you want it to be - easier than Butcher Jones, but it is kind of a long loop - I think it took us around 4 hours to complete and there is a cool little cabin on the back side of the mountain. If you have Peter Massey book: Backcountry Adventures Arizona, it is on pages 443-445. I don't have the book with me right now, but I think to book rates it a 3 of 10 on difficulty.

There are some pretty cool old mining buildings like that in the hills behind my girlfriends parents house in Dewey. Also all kinds of abandon mines, we walked about 100 yards into one of them and near the end there was a mineshaft that went down farther than my flashlight could shine! Pretty sweet stuff and super easy trails. Used to cruise around back there alot in my old 89 stock Yota pickup.

long runs are cool with me. We left I-17 and paved roads about 11am and got to Cave Creek around 7pm. Most of the mines I've checked out are on the North-side (Tip-Top, Gillette etc) so East-side would be fun too! Sundays seem to be the best for me, let me know whenever you want to go 'splorin!

Welcome to the AZ roll call....glad you found it.
Those pictures you sent will help out with the power steering cooler idea. Looking forward to seeing you out on the next run if you can make it.

We are a very diverse group of wheelers with a great attitude towards others and always willing to lend a hand to a fellow YOTATECH member...amongst other people too.

No kidding. I spent the weekend going out to a pictograph that nobody ever heard of a couple years ago. Now in the last 2-3 years it's been getting some exposure. Probably only a matter of time until it gets screwed up. Fortunately it's a PITA to get to.

Awesome video. That truck does really good. What transfer case(s) gears? Are those tires interco M/T's?

That's the Bloody Basin exit out to Horseshoe Lake path? Is there a way to get to Horseshoe Lake without crossing through water? I have a friend with a 2011 Tacoma that might like going out there with me. Pretty sure he'd object to crossing any kind of deep water.

For water crossings, is anything besides a snorkle needed?

Yeah, you need extended diff breathers (yours are already entended into the frame and engine compartment), remember the ECU is in the passenger side kick panel so don't go deeper than that (some people put a ziplock bag around it for some water resistance). Afterwards, check/repack your hubs and check the diff fluids to make sure that no water got in there.
