tacoma e locker in 86 runner?

i have a 98 tacoma and a 86 4runner. i am building the 4runner to be a trail rig. since i am not going to be wheeling the tacoma anymore and i will NOT need the locker, will it be possible for me to get 5.29 gears and put them in the 3rd and than take the 3rd from my runner and put it in the tacoma? the tacoma is a v6 si i am a little worried about the 4cyl 3rd holding up.anyone ever do that? it will save me allot of money for the runner, i will have a locker and a v6 3rd for bassicly free!!!

it would actually be easier to swap the whole rear end... it is possible to do, however the rear housing on the runner will need to have some modifications done to it... http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/electric_locker/

What are you gonna put in the rear of the tacoma?
Surely not the IFS third. Right? It won't work.

Don't you want to do a FJ80 HP 3rd for the front? It makes sense to use the 3rd from your taco....

um...no, it's not.
Assuming you're going to use Toyota axle....See where the third sits? it's close to the spring purch.

One side is still on. I had to cut the other side off because I added the axle truss on top
