So I am trying to plan my new cargo box and roll bar layout for the back of my 4Runner. I want a powertank/CO2 tank and have a question about the mounting brackets. The bracket I am talking about is the one in this picture,

Does the tank have to be placed in and out of the bracket straight up and down or is the bracket more like a fire extinguisher mount where the strap detaches at one side and the tank can be removed?

I ask because if it has to be slid into the mount from the top, I will never be able to take it out of its bracket in the place I have in mind.

It should'nt make any difference which way you mount the tank, just as long as you can remove it from it's holder/bracket.

 

But if it has to be lifted up out of the bracket it will run into my roof, so it would be stuck in there, forever. I want to know if that is how the bracket works or if the tank strap detaches at one side allowing me to remove the tank that way.

Looks to me like if you lay it down on it's side, it should be no problem picking it out that way.

 

I found this pic of the mounting bracket empty. So it looks like you can lay it down and pull it straight up from a laying position.

But then this site shows a few different types of brackets. Im guessing they all latch around yet move back far enough to pull it straight out from the back or slide it up through the top

I could be wrong but if you have the tank on it's side there's a greater possibility of pushing out liquid CO2 instead of just gas. The air lines will likely act as an expansion chamber evaporating the liquid CO2 before reaching your tires but if it doesn't you may push the liquid into your tires and inadvertently over inflate them. The tank may already have a straw in it that you can bend to draw from the highest point in the tank but it's worth checking into.

 

I think he already knows that you can't use the tank when it's laying on it's side...

I think the question is can the PT be removed from the front of that bracket without going up.

Mounting the tank straight up and down makes more sense to me. You can just use the tank while it is strapped into the bracket. Who want to strap/unstrap the tank everytime they need to use it? What a PITA.

 

I have to dig mine out of the back of the Runner whenever I need it. It's no hassle, and I'm still aired up faster then the OBA guys.
