shocks and sway bars on a sas?

Ok so im buying an 86 turbo 4runner with allpro 5inch sas and chevy's in the rear 2 in body lift and very soft springs. I need to use this vehicle for a daily driver, so to stiffen up the ride for the highway im thinking that rancho rs9000's(adjustable shocks) set to the stiffest setting and maybe a sway bar will help alot. What is everyone opinions and experience on this?
Thanks,
Andy

Well, the sway bar isn't going to do anything for your highway ride, but it'll help with wallowing around corners.

dont waste your money on the rancho shocks. Either get Bilstein 5125s or the new BBCS shocks from Poly Performance. The BBCS were specifically designed for leaf spring toyota trucks and will provide you with the correct valving you will need. If possible, mount the shocks vertical, front to back (stock) or both backwards...mounting them in an / \ is great for the extra travel etc..but it greatly reduces the effectiveness of the shock to dampen..bottom line...get some quality shocks.

I run the Rancho 9000s (and 9000X) shocks on my '85, w/ in-cab controller and that setup works very well. The new 9000X shocks are fairly decent. With the in-cab, I usually run the shocks at 1-2 in-town and then at 4-5 on the highway. Also going to be installing an Addco rear sway bar w/ quick disconnects to help when the truck is loaded with gear.

i dont realy mind if the ride is bumpy im just worried about tipping over around a turn because of suspension travel and or body roll.... so i would think a sway bar would help greatly with this.

tipping over around a turn really isnt that likely unless you are driving recklessly...I have over 5 inches of lift on my 86 with SAS, 35s...camper shell..and in my opinion it handles fairly well on road considering what it is. It all depends on the driver and once you get some experience behind the wheel i think you will feel comfortable driving...
sway bar isnt really necessary...remember what it was built for.

sounds good to me... however it does have very soft suspension and the current owner says that it flexs like mad.... the rear chevy springs have dual shackles.. should be interesting.

my alcans are very soft and there is a decent amount of body roll that comes along with springs that flex alot too..I would tell you to mount your rear shocks near vertical or in the stock configuration or both backwards...and also I have heard those dual shackles arent the best idea..might want to just get a single 5-7 inch shackle.
sounds like a nice truck...be sure to post up some pics.

Well, not all Chevy spring swaps are created equal. (different #s of leafs, 2wd vs 4wd, shackle setup) I've seen a 1st gen 4runner that looked like it would tip over when the bumper w/ mounted 35 was opened and the weight shifted. While mine is still fairly soft but nowhere near that soft.

What ever you end up doing, drive it like a lifted truck and that is that. Cheers.
