Randys R & P

I know a lot of the guys on this board are not crazy about Randys, but he is just a couple miles away from my house so I thought I would at least get some pricing from him. Anybody know the secret handshake or the magic words to get discounted pricing from them? I remember talking to them a few years ago and they seemed a bit high priced, but that may have been because I needed things shipped across the country. Any help would be appreciated.

They were high priced when I could just pick it up, too. IIRC, $450 for a used 8" rear w/ 4.10 gears. But they did "inspect" it, and set it up.

And, they were high-priced to just install an ARB locker - when I bring them the diff and the locker! They wanted $450 and 2 days.

When I bought my spool from them a year or two ago they had the best price around. I ordered it on Tuesday, delivery dude brought it to me Wednesday, I installed it Thursday, and went wheeling Friday-Sunday. I thought Randy's was great.

Thanks guys. $1700 seems a bit high for two 3rds set up with new gears and detroits, so I'm gonna keep looking.

How did it get to $1700? Details! Details! Gears and overhaul kit should have been $389...

I think 2 detroits added some to the gears and kits price. Not to mention the labor.

Basically I would recommend buying parts from them, but not having them setup anything.

The $1700 was for two complete 3rds, already set up with 5.29 gears and Detroits, ready to be bolted in. He quoted Detroits because he has two already done in the shop so I could get them today, and said I should stay away from EZ's or the other cheaper lockers because they wouldn't hold up long with the tire size I'm running (and my crazy driving).

I got front and rear 3rd's with 4.88's and ARB's for 2300.00 from Randy's and that was after returning the front for the core charge................216.00 I think. After all the pricing research I did I saved about 700. to 1000. doing the the yanking and install of the 3rds myself. I could have saved 500. more if I set the gears and ARB's myself. Remember I did this in December when steal was cheap and now it is out of control.

After weighing everything (labor charges, how long my truck would be in the shop, technical difficulties of setting gears and so on) I liked the complete 3rds option.
