Question about winch and winch rope...
Hey all,
I'm looking at a Warn M8000 to mount to my TJM T-17. It comes with 100' of 5/16' wire rope. I'd like to replace the rope with synthetic, but I'd like to add 25'. Will I run into any problems if I do that?
The reason I'd like to add 25' is so that if needed, I can use two snatch blocks and effectively triple the capacity of my winch (read: block and tackle). Could I even run 150'?
Any help/suggestions/advice is always grealy appreciated.

You can get a custom made up 25' line or whatever you want with ends on it to mate up to the stock rope you put on there.
I would suggest you get a closed/hasp hook like I use, no chance of an extra line slipping off that way then.
I have the hook like seen here that is yellow.

Just use the extra line when you need it, keep it coiled up in a bag.

I have 125' of 5/16 synthetic on my XD9000 and have not had any problems. I also have the same hook as Corey. I bought mine from Winchline.com off of fleabay..

I would put 75' of 3/8's on the winch and carry another 75 in the truck.
Unless you are always pulling at extreme distance with snatch blocks, you will not be getting full strength pulls out of it.
As a rule, going to synthetic will let you run the same amout of the next size rope or about 20-25' of the same size.
Triple blocks? That would be slower the slow.

I meant double blocks :pat:
But I've done a little more web research and discovered a single block is typically enough unless I'm trying to pull my truck out vertically.
However, I will probably carry a couple blocks and an extra length of rope since an anchor point isn't always directly infront of the vehicle.

I went from 100' to 80' on my M8000. It is cheaper, makes it a lot easier to spool up and gives more power with less payed out. I can't imagine a 125' line crammed onto the drum.
There are lots of trees in Ohio but just in case I have a T-Max 66' winch extension strap.
