ok i heard of someone talking one time about turning their a/c compressor into onboard air. Now i searched a few places and can't find it done, but has anyone else heard this? My ac isn't hosed up so i want to just convert it to onboard air... if it can be done

 

i dont think that it is talking about accualy making the a/c a air compressor, its talking about using the stock a/c bracket to mount a air compresor that is run off of the engine

No, using the AC compressor is what alot of people do. Usually it's a York, but can really be done with any. They plumb it have air. I'll see if I can find a diagram I have, and post it.

If you need help, let me know I have turned several stock AC units into OBA. Mine is a Harrison, found on GMs. It does almost 6 CFM at 140 PSI. Any AC Compressor can be turned into OBA, oiling is the key. Get the oil in and filter the oil out.

 

How do the stock compressors do?

 

Toyota compressors do very well, I am unsure of the numbers. I don't think you can buy a Vaair that can beat any AC Compressor. The only thing better is CO2, but it runs out.

Damn, this is easier than i thought. I have an old worn out compressor in the yard with about 5 gallons of capacity i'm gonna rig up some oba in the next few days

No, your AC (air conditioning will be lost). If you need it then you would need a second compressor. I would recommend a york, cause it doesn't need an oiler.

 

Yeah, that's what I thought. Problem is I have the 3VZE, and god knows where I would fit it.

How do i supply the oil to.the compressor? Put a hole in the side of the compressor with an oil recirculator? I might be asking.a stupid question.

 

I run an in-line oiler from harbor freight on the intake hose, and an oil/air separator on the outbound line with my stock a/c compressor on a 3vz. Ive used it alot with no issues. Its plenty fast.

Im working on connecting the oiler and seperator to recycle the oil instead of having to fill it.

These 2 work pretty darn good. Only thing is the separator resevour is smaller then the resevour on the oiler. So it fills up pretty fast. I have to empty it every 4 tires.

 

Gotta say somthing about the oiler though. Theres an adjustment screw on the top to regulate how much oil goes in the line. (whisper voice) "its sensitive". You gotta just play with it. Its either putting in no oil, or one turn later, all the oil. Finally got mine to were it uses all the oil in the reservoir filling all 4 tires. I think thats best for the compressor.
