well its kind of hard when your running a 22r to not take a run at a hole. the flaps may help the mud keep out but as soon as you stick your truck in a deep enough hole the whole engine is covered in mud. best thing to do is prepare for the worst. a front bumper with somewhat of a skid plate helps to take away the initial splash. where i live its all about the mud holes and some of them are deep. i kow this because i sank my truck up to the doors and couldn't get it out for a week. got 5 trucks stuck just to get me out.

I just killed an alternator too running through a few mud holes. Wait till you see what I have come up with. lol I just got to get the materials to do it this weekend and find out if it's doable.

I think using a GM alternator is a good way to go as well. but my idea is not that.

i was just on trail-gear.com and they have come out with an alternator bracket or GM alternators. that sould make a huge difference. i think it mounts it up high so it would be better plus they can take quite the beating before they decide to lose their charging capabilities
