locker/LS advice

I've got an 01 Taco, 4 cyl, reg cab auto. I'm gonna put a 3" body lify with some 285's on it. But I want some type of posi in the rear.

Who makes a cheap LS for the rear, don't want to lock the rear up yet($$$ and if anything i'd rather lock up the front and leave the rear a LS).

Thanks!

For LS, I know of the Detroit TrueTrac, and the Richmond Gear PowerTrax. They are both about $400. The Powertrax replaces your spider gears in the diff, and I think the the Detroit is a carrier replacement that your ring gear is bolted to. I don't really know of anyone else that make a LS for the Yotas. LS's can act like locker with a little brake pressure applied if needed.

For lockers, there is Lock-Right (by Richmond Gear), Ausie locker, Detroit lockers, ARB, factory electrics.

I'm in that same boat with you. I'd rather lock the front and LS the rear, too much daily driving. I'll probably go with the lock-right in the front, and either the powertrax or truetrac in the rear.

If you have manual hubs, it's a good way to go.

I do have manual hubs.... lockers in the rear of a 90% dd just doesn't seem very practical to me, I like to hotrod the turns.

An open diff Taco rear could be a pain, they are 8.4" and I can only think of ARB being available off the top of my head.

If you need a front locker, you likely need more than an LSD in the rear.

I would re-evaluate and get a selectable rear locker and leave the front open. If you are open now, that alone will blow your mind.

I had a True-Trac for a while, now I have two ARB's. They are worth every penny.

I'm used to being locked on both ends from my old Bronco, having two opens sucks. Right now money is my biggest object, so I'm gonna go with some kind of LSD in the rear, and when money frees up ARB in the front. Don't want a full on locker for the front because I spend the winters in PA, and lockers in ice = BAD! And it aint worth it to put a LSD in the front IMO.

I was asking a similar question a little bit ago. Someone said a Supra LSD would fit, but I don't know for sure.

from what i have heard you dont want a full time locked front , such as a spool, because when the front slips then the truck will then kickout to one side and it is hard to keep straight, this is true if you are up hill climbing
just my $.02
