DIY ubolt flip kit

Ok so I was doing some research on fj80 axle swaps on the Ih8mud forums and there is a guy on there that took some square ubolts, notched the bottom of the top spring pad, made a plate to go across the springs and put it all together.
Now if I was going to do this I would plate the entire spring pad and cut a tube in half and weld it in there to make a good solid mount.
I thought it was a great idea and a good was to save some money. just wanted to here your opinions on it

Btw wasn't too sure which section to post this in but now that I'm thinking about it probably should have gone in the fab shop, oops.

Why not just buy some round u-bolts at the auto parts store that fit your axle and drill out a plate? Can easily make your own the conventional way.

-Because I can
-Everywhere locally charges 20 per set
-I know they are bent up on the ends so they don't flex and bow I wasn't focused on that to much when I drew that up
- why not
- mine are square and I have extra square ones laying around

Seems like it would put way more load on your spring mounts. Also if a u bolt works its way loose your axle will fall off

I don't really have any arguments against the ubolt working loose point but I've personally never heard of a spring perch folding in on itself while under a load and highly doubt the weight of the axle could rip the perch off the housing so I don't aero the more stress on the perches as a valid point in the discussion ( not being a dick just explaining)

Besides axle weight there is also the torque of axle wrap. Probably not gonna break but still another factor. $20 isn't bad for the security of new bolts that go around the axle. is that a model of your actual axle? My perches look quite a bit shorter and wouldn't work for this anyway

Where are you getting prices from aroun here $20 if ubolt is one side of the axle I got 6 new ubolts but they are square
That was a estimation I realized after looking under there to see they were quite a bit shorter than expected might make new ones
My step dads 93 runner he had is for sale now for 450 dollars and still runs so I might buy it and put in a 300 d60 I know of and 14b rear and not worry about this whole thing but not forsure yet because I got laid off Friday

I bought the u bolts off rock auto and it cost like $6 a bolt.your method would work I was just pointing out a few downsides to this way. If it works for the fj80 guys it should work for you, just not the best way imo
